Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Assists Behavior Intervention Teacher in providing for physical and instructional needs of general education students with moderate to severe behavior needs across school settings. Assists with the implementation of behavior intervention plans including social skills behavior management and instructional programs.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma GED or recognized equivalent

Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Highly Qualified as defined by NCLB guidelines

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work with children with behavior concerns.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to be patient flexible and versatile.

Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience:

Some experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Model core organizational beliefs and values; communicate openly and effectively within and across teams; and manage resources to effectively support district goals.
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Help maintain a neat clean and orderly classroom.
  • Assist in implementing classroom plans that fulfill the requirements of the district behavior intervention program.
  • Assist Behavior Intervention Teachers with written classroom notes to assist identified students in the behavior intervention class.
  • Assist in monitoring the social and behavioral progress of students through observation and informal assessments.
  • Assist with inventory care and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
  • Conduct instructional tasks assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help manage the behavior of assigned students; as needed and according to district policy.
  • Inform teacher of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom according to duties assigned.
  • Utilize effective communication skills; ensure that all interactions are supportive courteous and respectful.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Ensure confidentiality regarding all personnel matters.
  • Complies with district policies as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Adhere to the districts safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Wheelchair lift and ramp. (Note: describe other equipment used based on condition of student assigned i.e. adaptive equipment oxygen gauges etc.) Computer copier and phone.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing stooping bending kneeling pushing and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
