Job Description

Requirements

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited training program resulting in certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Health and Human Services or American Medical Certification.
    Equivalency Determination Request: The Contractor may not request an equivalency determination as a substitute for education requirements on this labor category.

Certifications:

  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Health and Human Services of American Medical Certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years experience. The contractor must pass Color Vision Test.

Duties:

  • Blood Product Preparation & Compliance:
    Prepare blood components (RBCs platelets plasma cryoprecipitate) in accordance with FDA AABB Navy Blood Program (NBP) and ASBBC standards. Cross-match blood for transfusions label products and create shipments while ensuring compliance with quality control and maintenance procedures.

  • Sample Analysis & Testing:
    Collect and analyze blood and urine samples examine tissue cultures and fluid slides microscopically and assess blood morphology. Perform chemical and toxicological testing ensuring accuracy in lab reports and test results.

  • Data Entry & Systems Use:
    Enter donor results into the Enterprise Blood Management Distribution System and review logs for accuracy. Monitor and manage blood inventory distribution and coordinate shipments.

  • Equipment & Supplies:
    Calibrate and operate lab equipment; monitor temperatures reagent levels and ensure proper storage and disposal. Maintain supply inventory with appropriate lead times.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
    Adhere to established policies ethical guidelines and JC standards. Support medical readiness and safety practices including the disposal of medical waste and participation in proficiency testing.

  • Training & Support:
    Train new employees students and residents on lab protocols. Serve as a preceptor for MLT preceptorship programs and assist with onboarding and competency assessments.

  • Communication & Administration:
    Deliver test results to physicians and researchers. Participate in departmental meetings committees and process improvement initiatives. Report directly to the ASBBC Director.

  • Requirements:
    Must pass a Color Vision Test. Participate in customer service and readiness programs as required.
