Counselor Mobile Crisis
Annual Salary: $56625
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm with one weekend per month.

Since 1971 Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of the cities of Hampton and Newport News Virginia offering a comprehensive array of programs for both children and adults living with mental illness developmental disabilities and/or substance use disorders.
As a Mobile Crisis Counselor youll step into a critical role where every moment counts. Youll be the first line of support for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises responding directly to urgent situations involving mental health substance use or homelessness. Your job is to meet people where they are-sometimes in homes public spaces or alongside first responders help stabilize the situation with empathy professionalism and clinical skill.
Each day youll conduct on-site assessments offer immediate crisis intervention and ensure individuals are safely connected to the appropriate level of care. You wont be doing this alone-this is a deeply collaborative position where youll work closely with law enforcement medical personnel and other behavioral health professionals to coordinate timely and effective responses. Youll also engage in meaningful follow-up to ensure continuity of care contribute to the development of crisis response protocols and support broader community education through training initiatives.

The ideal candidate for this role holds a Masters Degree in human services and has at least one year of experience in a psychiatric care setting. You must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a QMHP or be prepared to register as a QMHP trainee within the first 30 days of employment. Successful completion of pre-admission screener certification modules within the same timeframe is also required.
Proficiency in utilizing relevant software and tools for assessments and case management is crucial for effective operation. Candidates must have a valid Drivers License to facilitate client transport as needed. Strong interpersonal skills the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and a keen understanding of behavioral health crises are vital for making a meaningful impact in this critical role.
