- ESG Policy 18 : Salaries typically range from $94664 to $126219 annually based on qualifications and experiences.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
- This role can be performed from EDCs headquarters in Ottawa or from our Community Hub located in Toronto.

Team Overview:
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work in the fast-evolving field of Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) in the financial sector Our Policy team will recruit a new Senior Advisor - Climate to join our growing team. As a subject matter expert on climate change and environmental policy the individual will be a key contributor to support EDCs Net Zero by 2050 objectives and implementation of the organizations Climate Change Policy.
The Senior Advisor will play a pivotal role to support the execution of EDCs corporate strategy coupled with the implementation and refinement of existing and future environmental policies and initiatives in close collaboration with other EDC teams. The individual will have a high level of exposure across EDCs lines of business and other risk functions. This role requires exceptional communication and influencing skills with a large network of internal and external stakeholders to engage and consult on an array of technical climate related issues.
Role
The focus of this role is to lead the update and subsequent implementation of EDCs climate change commitments through the provision of expert research analysis and advice as well as cross-team coordination and engagement. The Senior Advisor will lead and/or support the development implementation and/or refinement of climate change-related policies programs procedures and initiatives including those related to EDCs applicable international reporting frameworks and sustainable finance program.
The Individual will contribute and may lead on the management of EDCs various climate-related data monitoring requirements. Accordingly the ideal candidate will be comfortable working with large datasets adept at managing and adapting data systems and requirements as well as presenting quantitative and qualitative information for internal and external consumption.
This is a rare opportunity for a resourceful collaborative and creative self-starter to work directly in the evolving area of climate change in the financial services sector.
What you will be doing:
Reporting to the Director of Policy and Reporting in the ESG-Integration team the selected individual will:
- Lead EDCs Climate Policy review and update which will involve substantial stakeholder engagement and consultation.
- Support the review and update of EDCs other environmental and social policies to ensure coherence and alignment with the updated Climate Policy.
- Facilitate the implementation of EDCs climate change-related policies procedures programs and/or initiatives in collaboration with partners across EDC
- Conduct climate-related data analysis and monitoring
- Liaise with external consultants and ensure delivery on EDCs requirements
- Support corporate continuous-improvement initiatives using problem-solving and other related techniques
- Provide advice at both the operational and strategic level on management of climate-related risk
What we are looking for:
- Undergraduate degree in science economics or law with a clear focus on environment
- Minimum of six years of direct financial services experience and/or working with private companies operating in carbon intensive sectors
- Experience with environmental policy development advocacy implementation and monitoring including the development of policy position papers
- Demonstrated experience in the transition to a lower carbon economy with the financial sector
- Demonstrated experience setting and implementing science-based targets and calculating financed emissions
- Experience with quantitative analysis such as statistics or econo-metrics
- Experience in corporate sustainability and responsibility issues and their relevance to the financial services sector
- Demonstrated experience in project management and skills / experience in stakeholder engagement and consultation.
- Superior written and oral communication skills; minimum C level English
What will make you stand out:
- Graduate degree
- Experience with international organizations such as the IFC WB OECD and the UN
- Experience of TCFD and relevant climate change reporting frameworks/benchmarks (for example Carbon Disclosure Project)
- Experience with climate-related data analysis including greenhouse gas measurement monitoring and management
- Experience with climate-related scenario analysis
- Familiarity with international environmental and social standards such as the International Finance Corporations Performance Standards and the Equator Principles
- French language skills
