JOB SUMMARY

As an ELL Instructor you will be responsible for teaching English language skills to adult non-native speakers. Your primary duties include developing and delivering effective lesson plans assessing students language proficiency and providing constructive feedback to help learners improve their English proficiency. You will create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation. Additionally you may be involved in designing curriculum organizing cultural activities and collaborating with other educators and administrators to enhance the language learning experience. Strong communication skills cultural sensitivity and a passion for helping others achieve language proficiency are essential for success in this role.

This position will work Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 5pm-8:30pm andreports to the Assistant Principal over Adult Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. Must have one of the following:
    a) TESOL certification (e.g. TESOL/TEFL/CELTA)OR
    b) Current and valid Utah educator license with an ESL endorsementOR
    c) Current and valid out of state educator license with an ESL endorsement that is transferrable to Utah
  2. Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and methodologies
  3. Professional communication skills including but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident articulate and professional speaking abilities; and empathic listening and persuasive speaking skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Previous experience teaching English to adult learners particularly in an intensive English program or ESL/EFL setting
  2. Bachelors degree in Applied Linguistics Education or a related field
  3. Experience with curriculum development and lesson planning
  4. Familiarity with educational technology and learning management systems (LMS)
  5. Fluency in languages other than English

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  1. Assess student learning participation and skills for the purpose of providing quality age-appropriate instruction.
  2. Supervise academic enrichment activities (e.g. class activities field trips visits by guests etc.) guiding students in learning from those enhancements.
  3. Prepare teaching materials and related reports document student progress (e.g. attendance anecdotal records etc.) and implement lesson plans.
  4. Provide for the individual needs of students (e.g. assistive devices supportive technology assistance accessing facilities etc.) to ensure access to a quality educational program.
  5. Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse students and colleagues using strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Ability to adapt teaching approaches to accommodate different proficiency levels and learning needs to adult learners.
  7. Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment and report incidents (e.g. fights suspected child abuse neglect suspected substance abuse etc.) to ensure compliance with administrative and school policies and state and federal law.
  8. Collaborate with school personnel and student to improve the quality of student outcomes develop solutions plan curriculum convey information on student progress and encourage parental involvement.
  9. Perform record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling copying data recording etc.) to support the administrator and department.
  10. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees students and stakeholders.
  11. Participate in meetings workshops seminars as assigned to convey or gather required information.
  12. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions.
  13. Collaborates with families colleagues and other professional to promote student growth and development.
  14. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements in an efficient and effective manner; required to attend activities events and meetings outside of normal work hours on a regular basis.
  15. Maintain professional workplace etiquette and represents the department/district in a professional manner; communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with co-workers students parents and other district employees.
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operations of the school.

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting carrying pushing pulling stooping kneeling crouching crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting 30% walking and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
