The Manager (Packaging Engineer) will design develop and evaluate innovative secondary packaging configurations for a diverse portfolio of pharmaceutical products. These secondary packaging configurations will allow us to effectively deliver a variety of pharmaceutical and device products to the marketplace. The manager may also help develop primary packaging and labeling in collaboration with groups across the enterprise. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring the successful distribution of packaging configurations across a global network of plants and through a global distribution network.
The Manager will also provide technical guidance to resolve ongoing packaging challenges and ensure successful distribution of products through a variety of distribution channels.
The Manager is expected to develop packaging configurations and to manage technical efforts. The candidate must be capable of ensuring resolution of all technical issues and providing timely implementation of all projects to maintain a consistent supply of our products to the market while maintaining compliance to cGMPs.
The Manager is expected to collaborate with clinical and R&D stage of development to identify test and implement new and innovative packaging materials.
Candidate must be well versed in tertiary package testing standards (ASTM and ISTA) ISO distribution testing and packaging standardsbe familiar with the various formats of barcodes as well as global packaging regulations and compendial.
What You Will Achieve
In this role you will:
Lead develop participate in and make technical contributions to teams and team objectives.
Collaborate with clinical and R&D groups to identify test and implement new packaging materials.
Prepare comprehensive scientific reports and protocols specifications and presentations and route for approval where necessary.
Support the design of the commercial package through design challenges and human factor studies.
Provide technical guidance and input to problem solving and dealing with daily issues. Develop innovative solutions in a timely manner to technical issues.
Participate on multi-functional teams to identify and resolve secondary packaging and distribution issues.
Communicate and negotiate issues across functional groups and resolve issues and complete activities per project milestones.
Participate in initiatives to develop new packaging configurations or introduce new product lines.
Analyze complex data and provide summaries and make recommendations.
Identify customer requirements/issues and provide recommendations/solutions to meet customer needs.
Ensure proper package testing including child resistance and USP.
Lead and ensure anti-counterfeiting measures are implemented on the commercial package where needed.
Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)
Applicant must have a bachelors degree with at least 4 years of experience; OR a masters degree with at least 2 years of experience; OR a PhD with 0 years of experience; OR as an associates degree with 8 years
of experience; OR a high school diploma (or equivalent) and 10 years of relevant experienceStrong leadership and influencing capabilities across all organizational levels
Demonstrated leadership experience in Package Development in the Pharmaceutical Medical Devices or related Healthcare industries is required.
Proven experience leading package development projects under design controls and demonstrated launch execution required.
Ability to apply technical experience industry regulations site operational experience packaging systems and component knowledge to build and manage a packaging project timeline is required.
Experience in the production or support of medical products or a closely related field is preferred.
Physical/Mental Requirements
The Incumbent will be expected to function successfully in an office setting. The incumbent will be required to sit for long periods of time while viewing a computer monitor and using a keyboard or talking on the telephone.
Routine visits to the laboratory to review supervise and conduct packaging and distribution testing will be required.
Routine meetings with colleagues and partners across the world in various time zones.
The incumbent must be capable of applying his/her skills to the solution of secondary packaging and distribution addition to the technical issues he/she must work well in a team environment and be capable of fostering the confidence of co-workers both within and outside of Global Technology Engineering and Launch in order to efficiently achieve project goals.
Non-Standard Work Schedule Travel or Environment Requirements
Periodic travel (domestic and international) up to 10% of time.
Safety procedures are critical to any laboratory operations undertaken by incumbent.
Periodic training on all relevant safety procedures is a requirement of the position.
Adherence to approved operational procedures and use of personal protective equipment and available ventilation devices are critical.
