Job Goal(s):
The primary job goal of the Student Support Specialist is to assist in fostering a positive school environment by supporting student behavior facilitating participation in enrichment activities and helping with daily routines across the school. This includes providing behavioral support assisting with classroom and school-wide activities engaging students in enrichment opportunities and occasionally helping with tasks such as lunch serviceall while promoting student growth independence.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma required
Associate degree preferred
Bahelors degree or credits in education psychology preferred
Work Experience:
Previousexperience working with children particularly those with complex academic and behavioral needs are preferred.

Essential Job Functions:
- Establish positive working relationships with students and staff
- Provide direct student support
- Assist in Crisis Team & De-esclation Training (CPI)
- Assist with implementation of appropriate programming supplemental aids and positive behavior supports for individual student needs
- Provide support to classrooms and individual students to increase independence positive behavior and academic skills
- Support the development of behavior plans model implementation
- Implement appropriate data tracking tools and gradually fade the documentation of performance to locals
- Model effective instructional practices behavior management and crisis prevention/intervention
- Maintain an understanding of the program behavior management procedures and be supportive of the program mission and philosophy
- Collect data to measure progress and intervention effectiveness
- Maintain effective ongoing communication with others and participate in planning meetings
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school information
- Maintain service log
- Follow through on assigned responsibilities within agreed upon time lines
- Follow Van Buren ISD school policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
- Regular and reliable in person attendance
- Valid drivers license required.
Terms of Employment:As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
