About this Position
To develop in every student the skills of critical thinking and to help students learn technical Spanish translation and interpretation in order for that student to become a positive member of the community.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- Minimum 2 years of experience translating/interpreting
- Must have educational qualifications to teach in subject area or have documented specialty education/experience to meet tested experience requirements as per the Higher Learning Commissions publication on Determining Qualified Faculty and provide leadership in an academic discipline and/or degree program.
- Programs with discipline-specific external accreditation may have more stringent training and experience requirements.
- Experience using technology in translation/interpretation (a plus)
- Certified translator/interpreter (preferred but not required)
- Able to teach fall spring or summer
- Native-like fluency in Spanish
- Demonstrated high level of proficiency in English

- Teaching Competence Must be able to create lesson plans content presentations ancillary materials and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.
- Communication skills Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear grammatically correct English; requires interaction with supervisors colleagues students alumni advisory committee members and the public using tact discretion and independent judgment.
- Computer skills Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word PowerPoint Excel) as well as e-mail and internet and learning management systems.
- Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
- Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters
Masters in Spanish or English as Second Language. Any other non-English language degree with at least 18 post-graduate hours in Spanish.
Essential Job Functions:
- Design and deliver curriculum for associate courses in interpretation and translation covering topics such as:
- Simultaneous and consecutive interpretation
- Legal and or medical translation
- Translationtheory and ethics
- Terminology management
- Cultural competency in translation.
- Cross-cultural communication.
- Teach practical translation and interpretation skills through simulations role-playing and real-world case studies.
- Assess student performance through written exams oral presentations and practical translation/interpretation exercises.
- Provide individual feedback to students on their translation and interpretation skills.
- Create a syllabus that meets the Provosts Syllabus Checklist requirements.
- Create assessment activities that support the stated learning outcomes for the course.
- Support and follow University policies and procedures as well as those for the department.
- Submit grades and materials for assessment projects on or before stated deadlines.
- Address student questions in a timely and helpful manner.
- Prepare meaningful lectures and class activities for the full duration of the published class time for each class period according to academic calendar.
- Use Canvas and other technology to enhance student learning.
- Communicate student concerns with personnel in the department.
- Maintain student and course records with updates on the learning management system.
- Maintain and file current course outlines objectives and grading procedures for all courses.
- Exhibit innovative and adaptive instructional methods.
- Completes all mandatory training.
- Fulfill all requirements as noted in the Adjunct Handbook.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends.
- Work will be performed in an office and classroom environment with a significant amount of public contact in person by telephone via email and various communication platforms.
Physical Requirements:
- Duties require extended periods of sitting talking and listening.
- Duties require extensive use of computers telephones and other office equipment.
- Requires possible lifting of up to 25 lbs. (If an object weights more than 45 lbs. OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift).
