The Opportunity:
The Washington State University (WSU) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks to fill two full-time continuous faculty positions in Agricultural Animal Medicine. One position will be open rank (assistant professor/associate professor/professor) in either the career (clinical) track or tenure track. The other position will be at the associate professor or professor level (career track or tenure track). The successful applicants will join a dedicated team of faculty and staff focused on multiple aspects of agricultural animal health including in-hospital and ambulatory clinical service theriogenology clinical and preclinical teaching production/population medicine extension and research/scholarship. The Department is open to novel position structures including partial/hybrid appointments which could allow for private sector or other activities.
Our Agricultural Animal Service provides in-hospital and ambulatory clinical services and operates out of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) in Pullman Washington. Our VTH is the leading referral center in the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest with over 20000 patient visits per year aspiring to be the countrys best academic veterinary hospital for patients students clients colleagues and community. The joint mission of the VTH and VCS is to improve the health and well-being of all animals through excellence in medical care training future veterinarians and finding innovative ways to diagnose and treat disease. Dedicated to this vision and mission are more than 60 full-time faculty members and 170 staff and house officers.
Responsibilities for all ranks:
These positions will comprise agricultural animal clinical service/ clinical teaching (minimum 40% effort) didactic teaching and scholarship effort consistent with the applicants level of training and interest. A higher level of scholarship (minimum 40% effort) will be expected of tenure track applicants. The successful applicants will be expected to provide clinical services primarily in our VTH to a variety of livestock operations including beef (cow-calf and feedlot) dairy small ruminant camelids and swine. This position will involve communication with practitioners owners and farm workers as well as collaborative work with colleagues in the CVM the College of Agricultural Human and Natural Resources Sciences (CAHNRS) and the University of Idaho Department of Animal Sciences.
The successful individuals will be responsible for in-hospital clinical instruction and supervising veterinary students interns and residents. Teaching responsibilities may include participation or directing lecture courses discussions and case-based learning and laboratories in the DVM and house officer graduate programs. Teaching opportunities may include didactic and laboratory courses in large animal nutrition internal medicine surgery epidemiology and/or population medicine. Opportunities for leading experiential student learning rotations on cooperating livestock operations in the region are available. Opportunities exist for collaborative or independent research/scholarship within the candidates area of interest.

This is a full time (100% FTE) permanent position. This position is overtime exempt.
Annual Salary:
$145000 - $175000 Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications for all ranks:
The successful candidate must have a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree (VMD BVSc) and demonstrated experience in an advanced clinical training program.
Board certification or board-eligibility in a large animal/agricultural animal specialty at the time of hire is required. This could include American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or American Board of Veterinary Practitioner (ABVP) Dairy Beef or Food Animal Practice.
The successful applicant should be able to effectively communicate and work collegially and collaboratively with people from all backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment and relevant ability to foster community outreach access and engagement.
Considerations regarding faculty rank and track will be determined based on the interests and qualifications of the candidate as will division of time between clinical duty teaching scholarship and other activities. For tenure track applicants a higher level of demonstrated scholarship productivity will be expected as compared to career track applicants. For either track applicants for associate professor must have a higher level of clinical and teaching experience scholarship productivity and national or international recognition as compared to assistant professor applicants. Likewise for applicants for the professor rank in comparison to candidates at the associate professor level.
