Job Description

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician to useing a variety of procedures involving highly complex analytical lab test methodology and techniques performs quantitative and qualitative clinical laboratory analyses on biological specimens such as blood tissue and body fluids. These procedures will utilize a variety of procedures many involving numerous highly complex tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment. Provides technical expertise and information used to diagnose prevent or treat disease. This position is 100% time 1st shift 0900-1730 with rotating weekends and holiday on-call.

Duties to include:

  • Performs highly complex quantitative and qualitative analysis by processing diverse clinical and research specimen types such as peripheral blood bone marrow stem cell and lymph node biopsy material for flow cytometric assays.
  • Uses flow cytometer software to perform complex analyses of flow cytometry specimens including cell sorting categorization and staining patterns.
  • Conducts initial data analysis of flow cytometry laboratory test results; works closely with faculty to assist with interpretation and display graphics. Provides information to other allied health care provider(s) regarding test methodology and interpretation.
  • Maintains records logs and orders for antibodies and reagents.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to MLS staff on documentation and interpretation of quality control and quality assurance flow cytometry issues.
