Job Summary
In your role as a Business Tutor at Midland College you will primarily focus on helping students navigate their academic challenges. By observing and understanding their needs youll implement personalized strategies to foster effective problem-solving. Your work will involve mentoring students empowering them to become more autonomous and successful learners. Additionally you will assist in integrating efficient study techniques while reinforcing course content assignments and materials.
Essential Functions
Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions with students on campus to help them understand subject material and address academic concerns Encourage independent learning by demonstrating and recommending effective study skills and practices that contribute to college success Maintain accurate records of student appointments Utilize open-ended probing questions to engage students actively and evaluate their knowledge and retention Ensure confidentiality is upheld at all times Help manage the centers/building noise levels and maintain cleanliness Assist with academic workshops study sessions and programming as needed Collaborate with professional and peer tutors across campus for mutual support Attend meetings as required Report any issues to the Director of Academic Engagement or designated faculty members Ensure the center remains a safe and conducive learning environment for students Adhere to all policies and procedures established by Midland College Perform other duties as assigned related to Academic Engagement and the Learning Resource Center ( LRC )
Physical Demands
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds Ability to work extended hours including weekends and attend Midland College or community events
Required Qualifications
Capable of tutoring specific areas of business including accounting economics management or finance with a grade of A or B in the relevant course or relevant field experience Familiarity with general office equipment including copiers fax machines and multi-line telephones Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills complemented by strong organizational abilities Strong critical thinking skills Ability to interact with students on an individual basis or in a group Ability to speak and write clearly in English
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to read and speak Spanish is a plus
