ABOUT THE ROLE

Our team ensures that reliability and performance of both internal and externally visible systems matches users needs while facilitating a fast rate of use a mix of open source SaaS and internally developed tools to manage and support our services life cycle (deploy configure upgrade monitor optimize).

We are looking for a passionate Linux Systems Engineer who has working experience with bare metal edge devices (industrial PCs embedded systems) to oversee the development
production
and lifecycle maintenance processes of 1000s of deployed units (x64 armhf & arm64 targets).

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• Perform and automate deployment maintenance and upgrades across a fleet of industrial PCs (alma9 debian or vendor distribution based Linux O/S)

• Onboard new hardware platforms and maintain the existing

• Maintain a custom Linux package repository for all supported targets

• Develop and maintainthe internal tools that support the edge devices lifecycle (Bash Python Go)

• Develop
  production flows and CD processes for deployment of software and infrastructure systems at scale

• Grow systems by advocating for changes that enhance reliability performance and serviceability

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

This also means that you are effective at managing multiple tasks of varying complexities and are driven by continuous learning and growth. Specifically we are looking for a Linux Systems Engineer with the following toolbox:

• 5 years of working experience with Linux using the GNU/Linux command line scripting Linux tools and services

• Extensive hands-on experience with RHEL and variants (CentOS ALMA Linux Rocky)

• Extensive hands-on experience with Debian and variants (Ubuntu)

• Proficiency in Linux package management (RPM deb) building (including cross-compilation)

• Extensive hands-on experience with IP networking its hardware components (routers switches) and its corresponding Linux services such as DHCP DNS Routing NAT Firewalling VPNs VLANs Web Servers Forward and Reverse Proxys

• Working experience with industrial PCs single board computers and embedded systems and their development cycle

• YOCTO/OpenEmbedded or similar development flows experience

• Strong scripting skills (Bash and Python)

• C development skills

• University degree in Computer Science Engineering or similar disciplines

• A good team player eager to distribute knowledge able to work with minimal supervision

Nice to have:

• Previously worked in an embedded systems development role

• Ansible configuration management experience

• See and appreciate the value of documenting your solutions for others to use

• Want to help us improve our systems and processes and contribute to other teams and the product

• Like to learn how things work and troubleshooting issues to their root cause

• Prefer uniformity and repeatability over quick clever hacks

• Are not afraid to embrace new ways to do things even if they have a steep learning curve
