JOB TITLE: Transportation Coordinator - Fleet Maintenance WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non-exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
DEPT./SCHOOL: Transportation DATE REVISED: June 2025
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide effective coordination oversight and leadership for the daily operations of the transportation maintenance shop and its personnel to ensure the safety reliability and efficiency of the districts fleet in support of student and staff transportation for San Marcos CISD.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Associates Degree preferred
ASE Master Certification desired
Valid Texas Commercial Drivers License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement
Texas School Bus Driver Certification
Certified Drug/Alcohol Awareness Program Supervisor (Preferred)
Accident Investigation Training
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work cooperatively with people and manage personnel
Computer skills- Internet Microsoft word excel outlook google suite
Effective organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Advanced knowledge of diesel and fuel engine maintenance and repair
Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs independently
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
Ability to access and use service materials
Able to perform mechanical repairs with no supervision
Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
Experience:
3 years of mechanical experience
Three years of supervisory experience preferred
Previous experience as maintenance supervisor preferred

Tools/Equipment Used: Automotive diagnostic equipment; wheel balancing equipment; tire repairing equipment; small hand tools; power tools; welding torch; torque wrench; jack and lift equipment; Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; district vehicle; school bus.
Posture:Prolonged sitting; frequent standing kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
Lifting:Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds or more) on a daily basis.
Environment:Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures dust noise vibration; exposure to chemical hazards; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel; occasional statewide travel; School district employees may be require to work from home and use their personal electronic devices
Mental Demands:Work with frequent interruptions; Maintain emotional control under stress
