Job Description

To: All Staff Brockton Public SchoolsFrom: Dr. Kathleen Moran Assistant Superintendent of Human ResourcesSUBJECT: Edison Evening Academy Teaching Positions Full time (ELA MATH SOCIAL SCIENCE ESL SCHOOL ADJUSTMENT COUNSELOR)Edison Evening Academy is a dynamic and inclusive high school option within the Brockton Public Schools serving students ages 17 and older. Our dedicated faculty are united in their commitment to academic excellence equity and culturally responsive teaching. The academy offers an individualized diploma-granting program that emphasizes academic achievement and career pathways. Edison Evening Academy specializes in reengaging students who are over-aged and under-credited (OU) and who may be at risk of or have already disengaged from traditional school settings. As a district choice program Edison is designed to meet the diverse needs of learners seeking a supportive flexible and empowering educational :1. Appropriate DESE educator licensure2. Desire to work with students in a non-traditional educational setting that supports opportunities for academic college and career success3. Ability to support the social emotional and academic needs of students who did not find success in the traditional school environment who are at-risk of dropping out or who may have already dropped out of the traditional high school4. Ability to prioritize authentic culturally responsive relationship-building that centers students lived experiencesRESPONSIBILITIES:1. Participate in district and school-based professional development2. Collaboratively plan with content/SPED/ESL teachers and other specialists to align instruction and coordinate supports for English learners and students with disabilities3. Work collaboratively with guidance administration and students and families to develop implement and support each students Individual Graduation Plan4. Develop Learning Studios designed to build vocational and practical skills using competency-based hand-on lessons5. Implement the district identified high-quality instructional resources to enact evidence-based inclusive and culturally and linguistically responsive practice6. Plan outcomes-based units and lessons using evidence-based inclusive and culturally responsive instructional methods and activities. These lessons may be for up to four different grades/preps7. Provide equitable opportunities supports and scaffolds for all students to meet or exceed high expectations8. Accelerate student learning through Blended Learning Labs with synchronous and asynchronous lessons9. Engage in protocols designed to support students academic progress such as looking at student work and lesson planning protocols using district identified high quality instructional materials10. Contribute to a positive collaborative school and classroom culture that promotes diversity equity and inclusion11. Use Restorative Justice practices in the classroom to build community ensure student agency and to address concerns related to culture and climate12. Communicate regularly with families and caregivers through conferences phone calls and email to discuss students progress in an effort to engage all families in the success of their child13. Administer all required district and state assessments (unit tests Star MCAS WIDA ACCESS etc.)14. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Edison Evening Academy principalWORK YEAR AND DAY:Edison Evening Academy staff will work the contractual school year (182 days) plus 12 additional days beyond the close of the school year to support the Summer Hours:1. Monday-Thursday 1:20 p.m. 8:30 p.m.2. Friday 11:00 a.m. - 6:15 academic schedule for the students day will not follow a traditional high school schedule. This schedule is being developed and will be designed to support students academic growth and social and emotional : 1.10 ratio for the school year plus 12 days
