Job Description

JOB TITLE:Senior Accountant

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Controller

FTE: 1.0 (8 hours)

START DATE: August 11 2025

GENERAL DUTIES SUMMARY:

Maintains general ledger and performs vendor maintenance cash receipts and cash management functions. This is a lead position in the Business Office. Supports District and school budgets adjusting journal entries and provides support to the Business Office staff and school bookkeepers. The Chief Financial Officer or Controller may assign other required responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Master District financial accounting software and professional software
  • Demonstrate proficiency with databases spreadsheets and accounting programs
  • Interpret and communicate effectively person-to-person
  • Independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Exercise sound judgment when making decisions based on Business Office and District guidelines
  • Follow directions without detailed support
  • Prepare and analyze information and reports specific to the position
  • Prioritize and multi-task without detailed support or supervision
  • Operate under constrictive timelines
  • Remain flexible when normal duties and schedules are interrupted or changed to meet the needs of the Business Office or District
  • Read comprehend and employ documents including but not limited to software manuals job specific technical manuals District Policies and Procedures and other informational and professional documents specific to the position

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES

Cash Management

  • Reviews financial records to determine cash surplus and prepare deposits or withdrawals for the investment pool on a daily basis
  • Monitors daily banking operations and trains others on this function
  • Supports the Districts investment pool accounts
  • Reconciles all monthly bank and investment statements
  • Supports Controller with debt payments and investments

General Ledger Management

  • Demonstrates strong general ledger accounting skills
  • Understands and applies generally accepted accounting principles and fund accounting
  • Inputs and reviews journal entries for approval
  • Maintains general ledger chart of accounts through financial accounting software
  • Ensures district general ledger follows Oregons Program Budgeting and Accounting Manual

Support School Bookkeepers

  • Monitors Associated Student Body Funds (ASB) by reviewing bank statements accounting reports and assists schools in preparing for the annual review of the funds by the outside auditor
  • Serves as District support for school bookkeepers and other school staff
  • Troubleshoot bookkeeping and accounting errors

Budget Maintenance & Reporting

  • Maintains donation accounts and club funded accounts for each school/department
  • Works with Foundation to set up budgets for grants awarded to each school annually
  • Reviews and supports Budget Journal Entries
  • Coordinates month-end close tasks and records to ensure proper do

Internal & External Audits

  • Assists with external audit for both ASB and District funds
  • Performs periodic internal audits of cash and receipts
  • Supports secondary schools in preparation for annual audit

Accounts Receivable

  • Monitors accounts receivable and invoicing
  • Creates invoices for District

Support Controller and Chief Financial Officer

  • Assists the Controller and Chief Financial Officer with various financial projects
  • Prepares complex spreadsheets analyzes and calculates financial data
  • Compiles reports for schools and Business Office

Other

  • Provides guidance and serves as a resource to the Business Office staff
  • Reviews and monitors financial procedures for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and internal control policies
  • Participates in and provides complex technical analyses and professional support to management on budgetary and financial issues procedures or systems
  • Cross-training within Business Office to support department needs

Education and Experience

Any satisfactory equivalent combination or experience and training that ensures the ability to perform the essential functions may substitute for the requirements below.

  • The combination of which would meet or exceed 14 years of education and/or graduation from atwo-year college with an associate degree in accounting
  • Minimum five years of progressive responsibility in accounting
  • Completion of training and/or classes that will enhance job performance

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Employee is required to talk and hear in person and on the phone 6-8 hours per day
  • Employee must have the physical ability to use computers calculators and other common officeequipment
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Input data at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours per day
  • Stand reach and bend (to facilitate filing use of and maintenance of copy machines faxes and otherjob related equipment)
  • Lift and transport books catalogs and related supplies from storage to Department or meeting sites (see physical assessment section)

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Tigard-Tualatin School District 23J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter 51.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a twelve month assignment on the P range of the Classified Salary Schedule.

The assignment of the step will be in compliance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement and range of pay is located in the current Classified Salary Schedule.

A new employee shall be allowed up to (4) four years experience on the salary schedule based on actual years of experience on a job of like responsibilites and skills. The highest hourly rate for a new employee would be $34.90 per hour.
