Job Description

The Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs at the University of Denver is an interdisciplinary professional school of international studies that prepares students for careers in the public private and non-profit sectors. Our masters programs are ranked 12th in the world by Foreign Policy magazine and provide students with the knowledge skills and networks to design policies implement programs and realize outcomes that enhance human capabilities around the world. Position Summary

The Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs at the University of Denver seeks to hire a tenure-line assistant or associate professor with a focus on the intersection of technology and global and public affairs. The position will commence in September 2026.

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate outstanding potential at the assistant level or an outstanding record at the associate level both as a scholar and a teacher with a demonstrated ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary school and complement the expertise of the existing faculty who specialize in security democracy and human rights issues. We will give special consideration to scholars who focus on the impacts of contemporary technological innovation such as artificial intelligence drones cyber-threats automation data and surveillance on security democracy human rights or global and domestic governance.

The Korbel School is a leader in global and public affairs education and scholarship with two undergraduate majors six MA programs and an MPP program. We are deeply committed to building a diverse and inclusive educational environment and particularly seek candidates with research teaching service or life experiences that can contribute to realizing that commitment.

Essential Functions

The faculty member in this position will teach core courses in the Korbel Schools MA and undergraduate programs. Through research and outreach the person in this position will also contribute to the growth of the technology-related dimensions of the Schools programs in global and public affairs including possible synergies with existing degrees and research in security democracy human rights and public policy and to the Schools commitment to engaged scholarship.

Required Qualifications

  • A PhD or equivalent in political science public policy economics sociology or related field.
  • The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in security democracy human rights global justice or public policy as indicated by evidence of teaching experience or potential.
  • Scholarly publications or other evidence of high research potential.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with research that engages or has the potential to engage with various policy communities and stakeholders.
  • Experience in obtaining or applying for sponsored research funding.
  • Experience collaborating with scholars in other disciplines.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule

While the Universitys administrative offices are open Monday Friday 8:00 am 4:30 pm faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught service commitments and research agendas. The Universitys academic calendars are posted on the registrars website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range

Assistant Professor- $94000 - $104000

Associate Professor - $110000 - $128000

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
