Job Summary:
The Community Housing Officer will play a crucial role in preventing homelessness improving housing conditions and promoting a range of housing options. They will work closely with vulnerable individuals and families addressing their needs and providing support to prevent further anti-social behavior. The role also involves efficient management of temporary accommodation and Gypsy and Traveler sites as well as engaging with local communities to identify key issues and develop solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prevent homelessness and improve housing conditions
- Resolve community and neighborhood issues and build resilience
- Provide advice and signposting on various issues
- Efficiently manage temporary accommodation and Gypsy and Traveler sites
- Interview clients sensitively and gather information
- Visit unauthorised encampments and carry out welfare checks
- Carry out visits to temporary accommodation and Gypsy and Traveller sites
- Keep comprehensive notes of interactions and follow-up actions
- Represent the Council in multi-agency meetings
- Liaise with partners and relevant statutory services
- Produce comprehensive written decision letters for each homelessness application
- Analyze legal and financial information to support decision making
- Consult and engage with local communities to identify key local issues
- Work closely with partners to support and facilitate partnership working
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the role
Requirements

- Proven experience in housing social work or related field
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work sensitively with vulnerable individuals and families
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and housing policies
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively in emotionally demanding situations
- Full driving license and access to a vehicle for travel to various locations
- Relevant qualifications in housing social work or related field (desirable)
