JOB DESCRIPTIONSpecial Education DirectorREPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Student Support ServicesSUMMARY: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services the Director of Special Education assumes responsibility for the planning development coordination and management of all Special Education programs services budgets and personnel for a sub-set of district schools and programs. Each Director will ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing the delivery of services to students with disabilities and Medicaid reimbursements. The Zone Director of Special Education is also responsible for development implementation and evaluation of the Zones Special Education programs and will serve as liaison to the community as well as to appropriate public and private agencies. DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSITION INCLUDE: Coordinate all Special Education Services including the supervision of teachers related service providers and paraprofessionals Provide leadership for the Special Education Program for a subset of district schools and/or programs identified as a Zone Ensure that all testing and IEP deadlines are met Support and supervise Evaluation Team Facilitators in their role to coordinate IEP Eligibility Annual and Triannual Review Evaluations and other team meetings as required assuming the role of Chair when appropriate Coordinate outside evaluations and consultants when appropriate Oversee the delivery of Special Education services delivered by the Special Education teachers Assist in the recruitment screening hiring training evaluation and assignment of Special Education staff Approve and monitor the professional development of Special Education staff as required by DESE Ensure compliance with federal and state Special Education regulations Maintain student records and the Special Education database with knowledge of eStar Assist with preparation of reporting and documentation for DESE Assist with the development of appropriate policies and procedures for Special Education in compliance with state and federal regulations Evaluate Special Education staff and programs for the assigned Zone Assist the districts assessment supervisor with state/federal testing protocols and analysis especially as they relate to students identified with special learning needs and/or assignment of Alternate Assessments Administer academic testing as needed Support and promote the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) Prepare and implement compliance with the ADA Assist with the development and administration of the districts Special Education budget Coordinate and supervise home and hospital tutoring on an as needed basis for students on IEPs Act as liaison for homeless students Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Student Support ServicesMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three to five years of experience as a Special Education teacher One to three years as a Special Education Evaluation Team Facilitator (preferred) Proven organizational and management skills Excellent interpersonal relationship skills Demonstrated communication skills Special Education Administrator license (preferred) Masters degree Current authorization to work in the United States. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Meets all mandated health screening requirementsA record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Adheres to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Educators. Complies with drug-free workplace rules board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures. Ability to establish working relationships with co-workers and function as part of a cohesive team. Commitment to keep current with skills essential to the objectives of the position. Ability to facilitate student/family access to appropriate community resources.
