MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2 HEAVY/ COASTAL LAFAYETTE REGION
This position is a Mobile Equipment Operator2 Heavy in the Coastal Lafayette Regionand reports directly to a Maintenance Foreman. This is a highly skilled position that requiresahighdegree of precision and safety in the operation of large mobile equipment on and off bargesinsoft fluid marsh soils as well as onsolid ground;allinthesupport of marsh managementanderosion control projects as well asfacilityconstruction. Operates heavy equipment suchas bulldozers draglinestractors pile drivers backhoes excavators (land-based amphibious)trucksand boats and provides maintenance and minor repairs to thisequipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in mobile equipment operations.

Job Duties and Other Information
JOB DUTIES
Some work for this position requires moderate efforts and some will require brief period in which heavy muscular exertion and strenuous physical exertion in climbing lifting objects over 50 pounds or crouching or crawling in restricted areas is required. Travel throughout Louisiana including overnight stay and early morning departure is required as well as night work in boats and airboats. Incumbent will be required to stay on remote facilities tugs and houseboats for up to 8 days and 7 nights at a time and work a revolving 8 days on 6 days off hitch. Travel per diem is paid for most overnight travel.
The incumbent is responsible for the following (note excavatorsmaybe land-based oramphibious):
- The incumbent will operate excavators draglines and cranes to dig channels in waterways and to build levees.
- Operate excavatorsinmarsh areas to rebuild and repair leveesmarshterraces anddrainageditches.
- Operate bulldozers and backhoes to clear land new excavationspreadingdirt and aggregatesand forlandleveling.
- Operate farm tractors in clearing brush mowing moving dirt and aggregates gradingroadsandfields.
- Operate pile driver and vibratory hammer to drive pilings and sheetpilesfor variousstructures.
- Operate excavators and cranes toloadand off load equipment and supplies at remotefacilitiesanddocks.
- Operate excavators trucks dump trucks and boats to transport material suppliesandequipment to jobsites.
- The incumbent will makes minor repairs to equipment andperforms user maintenancewhichis necessary tokeepequipment in cleangood workingorder.
- Other duties as assigned.
POSITION- SPECIFIC DETAILS:
This position will be domiciled in Lafayette Parish.
Appointment Type: Job appointment probational appointment promotional or detail to special duty.
If filled as a job appointment there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected.
