Description

The Culture Intervention Assistant provides instructional support to assigned classroom teacher(s) and leads small-group targeted instructional intervention. The Culture Intervention Assistant reports to the Director of Student Culture.

Specific objectives and responsibilities of the position include:


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Builds meaningful relationships with scholars that enable them to participate fully in classroom instruction.
  • Provides behavioral interventions under the direction of the Director of Student Culture and the Dean of Students that exemplify HPA Habits and Scholar Code of Conduct.
  • Supports scholar redirections resets restorative actions and successful re-entry into the classroom environment.
  • At the direction of the Dean of Students and Director of Student Culture maintains a calm restorative-focused environment outside the classroom.
  • Responds to staff referral calls for supporting scholar behavior.
  • Assists the classroom teachers with the implementation of behavior support intervention plans or other mandated supports (i.e. 504 or IEP) specifically regarding behavior and/or supports that promote success in the learning environment.
  • May provide tutoring-like instruction to scholars during a long-term (e.g. 1-3 days) recovery.
  • Helps supervise student activities as directed (e.g. arrivals/departures parking lots lunch periods hall duty extracurricular programs etc.).
  • Supports and encourages scholars and parents while respecting and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Executes established protocols for documentation purposes related to continued misconduct issues and concerns. This may include parent communication if needed.
  • Creates and maintains working relationships between parents scholars and school staff.

  • Nurture a positive relationship with colleagues.

  • Support corporation decisions and direction relative to matters of policy and administrative directives. Work as a team player.
  • Demonstrate ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate commitment to our diversity and inclusion statement.
  • Assists with administrative school functions when not in the classroom.
  • Attendance at scheduled faculty meetings professional development meetings and other sessions as determined by the Head of School.
  • Attendance at evening events that include but may not be limited to Parent Orientation Meet the Teacher Night Parent/Teacher Conferences and Open Houses. The dates of these events are listed on the Master Calendar.
  • An expectation of professional and ethical conduct and professional growth throughout the year.
  • Collaboratively works with the administration and others to support the policies guidelines and working procedures for Herron High School.
  • Performs other duties as determined necessary by the administration.
  • An assignment of 180 days with vacation as approved by the Head of School.
Requirements
  • 2 years experience in an academic or educationally focused setting required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
  • Bachelors Degree preferred high school diploma required.
  • Eligibility to qualify for an Indiana Emergency Permit preferred.

Compensation

Negotiable depending on experience. Full-time benefits include health dental vision & life insurance; health savings account contributions short-term & long-term disability retirement contributions paid vacation & sick days.
