Purpose of Job
Under direct supervision assists in maintaining City streets and sidewalks landscaping drainage systems and municipal facilities. May drive pick-up truck performs vehicle maintenance and general tasks related to the Streets Department.
Must be able to work holidays weekends nights and/or special events
II. Essential Job Duties
A. Performs manual labor
- Uses departmental tools and equipment to repair potholes and utility cuts with hot bituminous asphalt mix.
- Form and cast concrete as required.
- Lays brick block and/or rock foundations; performs carpentry work to form head walls and assists with the installation of driveway pipes.
- Flags traffic for lane closures during road work maintenance.
- Transports loads and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects.
- Assists in application of salt brine and road salt to City streets during inclement winter weather conditions.
- Performs a variety of seasonal duties which may include mowing grass areas with commercial mowers; edging and trimming roadway medians shoulders and along City sidewalks landscaped areas; spreading grass seed fertilizers and straw; spraying chemicals such as pesticides and herbicides; laying sod spreading mulch building flower beds pruning trees and damaged trees and shrubbery; planting and maintaining flower beds and landscaped areas.
- Performs basic plumbing repairs which may include repairing leaks on irrigation and sprinkler systems and/or replacing parts as required for watering flowerbeds and plantings at designated landscaped areas.
- Performs basic electrical repairs which may include repairing damaged electrical outlets utilized for various activities on town square; replacing and maintaining light fixtures around City monument replacing bulbs in decorative lampposts.
- Performs basic construction and carpentry work which may include replacement and/or repair of decorative brick in Main Street sidewalks; installing and maintaining banner brackets and banner poles.
- Assists in preparing for special City events which may include placement and maintenance of decorative/seasonal banners installing barricades and cleanup of litter during and after special events or during normal ROW litter pickup.
- Transports loads and unloads various equipment and materials which may include commercial mowers weed eaters chain saws leaf blowers and other equipment used in completion of assigned duties.
- Maintains traffic signs on City streets as necessary.
III.Other Job Duties
Performs other job duties as assigned including:
Equipment Maintenance
- Maintenance necessary to keep machinery equipment and tools in operable condition which may include inspecting equipment checking fluids levels washing and cleaning equipment and cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
Administrative
- Receives various forms reports work orders maps or other documentation reviews completes processes forwards or retains as appropriate.
- Communicates with supervisors employees other departments City Officials the public and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities reviews status of work exchange information or resolve problems.
- Provides assistance or backup coverage to other employees or departments as needed. Performs other related duties as required.
IV.Primary Job Challenges
Primary challenges of this position include time management to efficiently maintain city assets and maximizing efficiency with given resources.
V.Equipment Operated
- Operates a variety of machinery equipment and tools associated with department activities which may include a utility truck mower weed eater edger blower hedge trimmer post hole digger ladder shovel rake pick pitchfork hoe mechanic and carpentry tools.

Job Content Knowledge:
Has considerable knowledge of City county and state right-of-way codes and safety practices necessary for the performance of duties. Has extensive knowledge in operating light and heavy job-related equipment. Determine and decide upon procedures to be implemented in maintaining safety codes and standards and resolving problems. Knows how to determine and ensure the safety of work sites. Is knowledgeable of the language and terminology used within the department.
Language Skills:

VII.Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical Demands: Performance of the essential duties of this job requires the incumbent to:
- Must remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Regularly move about around different worksites.
- Constantly operates equipment or machinery such as blowers pressure washers backpack blowers various hand tools mini-packer bobcat and golf carts. (change this to reflect the actual equipment employee will use).
- Frequently positions self to maintain work area and items needed to complete daily tasks.
- Regularly communicates information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Occasionally ascends/descends ladders.
- Regularly moves/transports up to 20pounds.

Work Environment: Performance of the essential duties of this job requires:
