Description of Job

The Facilities Services work unit exists to plan design construct operate maintain and manage the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) facilities and campus according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes a safe sanitary and effective environment for students and staff and enhances the quality of life in CSDB facilities and on campus.

General Grounds Maintenance

Maintains landscape using hand power and riding equipment. Maintains walkways and building perimeters. Prunes shrubs and trees as needed. Treats lawns trees and shrubs with fertilizers and insecticides. Maintains equipment and keeps O&M manuals readily available. Removes trash from buildings grass sidewalks and parking lots. Supports emergency storm assessments and recovery operations.

Optimize irrigation systems by repairing or replacing piping valves sprinkler heads and backflow preventers. Position will be required to use and understand the automated controllers manipulating program changes to accommodate for seasonal variation. Performs and verifies winterization has been completed prior to freezing conditions.

As an essential employee reports early as necessary to remove snow and ice from walkways parking lots and entryways by using snow removal equipment including truck with blade gator with blade snow blowers walk-behind brushes tractor-mounted brushes snow shovels skid steer etc. Apply salt and / or sand on walkways and parking areas to ensure safe walking conditions. May be required to work extended school / work hours and / or days as directed to support campus needs. Exposed to adverse working climate and weather conditions

Monitor changing weather conditions and adjust work schedules to mitigate hazardous conditions on campus.
Understanding operating procedures safety requirements and hazards associated with daily tasks and operating equipment.
Determine if equipment is functional and reliable prior to inclement weather.
Uses Computerized Maintenance Management System to manage work orders document tasks performed and itemize material / labor costs associated with work.
Work with other employees or departments to facilitate event set-ups.
Move furniture or equipment to support school program needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Only:

One (1) yearof relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Automated irrigation system experience (Rachio or similiar)
  • Arborist experience
  • Backflow experience/certification
  • Experience with weed management/herbicide applications

Special Qualifications:

Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force. This position requires heavy lifting (following appropriate safety requirements).
Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications which may include but is not limited to e-mail Internet word processing electronic calendar presentation development spreadsheet database etc.; willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed with or without direct support from CSDB.
Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback; ability to participate effectively in team setting and to work independently; strong interpersonal and communication skills; effective organization skills; effective problem-solving skills.
A courteous professional and helpful attitude in the role of CSDB representative.
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the NOVICE skill level or applicants must be willing and able to attain proficiency at that level within a specified period of time as demonstrated by an appropriate assessment tool and according to school policy / procedures
