** This employment opportunity is only open to current City of Oxnard employees in the Public Works Department.**


The City of Oxnards Public Works Department is seeking an experienced and professional Maintenance Plumber to join the team!


WHAT YOULL DO:

  • Performs all related plumbing repair and maintenance duties including maintaining inspecting repairing and monitoring plumbing systems of municipal buildings and facilities.

  • Repairs water leaks and/or drips such as sinks pumps and fountains; performs sewer cleaning of drains and/or connects sewer lines as appropriate.

  • Installs new plumbing fixtures such as toilets sinks urinals disposal units and hot water heaters; performs layouts estimates installs and services plumbing systems for City buildings and facilities.

  • Installs and maintains drinking fountains decorative fountains drains pipes and valves in municipal facilities.

  • Inspects plumbing-related work performed by municipally contracted workers.

  • Maintains tests and repairs boilers pumps valves backflow-devices and related equipment.

  • Repairs and maintains roof drains and gutters on municipal City facilities.

  • Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves complaints.

  • Assists in other maintenance duties such as safety inspections concrete and/or finish work painting of interior offices furniture moves and general HVAC maintenance when assigned.


PAYROLL TITLE/CLASSIFICATION:Maintenance Specialist


This class is the fourth level in a seven-level Maintenance and Operations Series devoted to maintaining and repairing City property equipment facilities and infrastructure and providing parks solid waste and recycling services and programs through the performance of semi-skilled and skilled labor and technical work. Incumbents provide skilled maintenance and repair activities. As assigned work may include maintenance and repair including preventative and corrective maintenance; equipment installation and troubleshooting; estimating material and supply needs; obtaining quotes for services and supplies; coordinating with contractors and vendors; operation of a variety of equipment; and following all safety policies and procedures.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This classification is distinguished from the Maintenance Technician Senior in that it performs both skilled maintenance and skilled repair work and provides troubleshooting of equipment issues.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.


WORK SCHEDULE:The normal work week is Monday-Thursday 8:00am - 6:00pm and alternate Fridays 8:00am - 5:00pm. This position may be required to be available to work additional hours as needed to respond to workload needs. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay. This position requires to be on call from Wednesday to the following Wednesday.

Essential Functions

(This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.)

Performs skilled maintenance and repair work in assigned trade and/or area; plans prioritizes and schedules activities to complete repairs and maintenance work in efficient and timely manner; selects proper tools and equipment for assignment; monitors work site safety; performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations.

Performs maintenance inspections; troubleshoots equipment maintenance and/or system issues; identifies repair needs; reviews repair versus replacement costs and makes recommendations; performs required repairs or works with outside contractors for project completion.

Organizes and maintains assigned equipment and tools; inspects cleans and performs preventative maintenance to ensure operability and reliability of equipment and tools.

Review equipment and materials required for daily maintenance and work projects; initiates request for or purchases approved materials and supplies.

Prepares and/or maintains activity records logs work orders material requests reports and/or technical documentation for equipment or building systems.

Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:

Positions assigned to facilities maintenance may be responsible for:

Providing maintenance and repair of City buildings electrical systems HVAC systems plumbing and carpentry;

Performing demolition and remodeling; Relocating office furniture;

Repairing locks cabinets countertops toilets heaters pumps valves pipes boilers and ventilation equipment;

Painting interiors and exteriors;

Installing and repairing flooring and carpet;

Performing concrete and masonry tasks;

Scheduling and completing moves;

Performing roof gutter and storm drain debris removal and repair;

Assisting contractors with more complex repairs.

Minimum Qualifications

The following are theminimumqualifications necessary for entry into the classification:

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

  • Four (4) years of equipment operation/driving experience or formal trades experience in one or more areas related to assignment

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid California Class C Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to communicate in English effectively both orally and in writing

  • Must be a current City of Oxnard Public Works employee in good standing

Selected candidate(s) must pass a thorough background investigation.

UNION MEMBERSHIP:Positions in this classification are represented by theInternational Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE).

NOTE:For most positions the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office/Google) and web-based enabled tools therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.

Regular and reliable attendance effective communication skills and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions.

Employees are required to participate in the Citys direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.

This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
