Job Description

Job Title: Operating Room (OR) Tech / Orderly
Reports To: Clinical Director / OR Supervisor
Position Type: PRN

Position Summary:

The OR Tech / Orderly is an essential member of the perioperative team responsible for assisting in the turnover and preparation of operating rooms transporting patients safely supporting the surgical staff and ensuring efficient and safe patient flow. This role helps maintain cleanliness equipment readiness and a smooth supportive environment for surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with turnover of operating rooms between cases including cleaning waste disposal and setup for next case.

  • Transport patients to and from pre-op operating room and recovery areas safely and efficiently.

  • Stock ORs and procedure rooms with necessary supplies and equipment.

  • Support nursing and surgical staff with equipment handling and positioning of patients as needed.

  • Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment.

  • Ensure proper handling of specimens and instruments under direction of clinical staff.

  • Provide general assistance during procedures as appropriate and within scope.

  • Assist with delivery and retrieval of surgical equipment and instruments.

  • Perform daily checks and maintenance of OR beds stretchers and positioning devices.

  • Respond to urgent requests in a timely and professional manner.

  • Uphold patient dignity safety and privacy at all times.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Prior experience in a surgical or healthcare setting preferred.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or willing to obtain

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to lift/move patients and equipment safely (up to 50 pounds).

  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection control principles a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced ambulatory surgery center setting.

  • Exposure to bodily fluids communicable diseases and hazardous materials.

  • Requires standing walking and lifting for extended periods.

  • Frequent lifting pushing and pulling of 50 pounds.
