Description

Coordinate with Lead Mechanic assist in repairs and servicing of vehicles doing oil changes grease jobs changing of tires and welding. Make minor adjustments and repairs to automobiles. Assist in large equipment repairs and perform small engine repairs on lawn mowers weed wackers and hedge trimmers. Pick up and deliver college vehicles for servicing.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Assist Lead Mechanic in maintenance and repair of all motor equipment as the absence of the lead mechanic take over many of his duties including welding equipment scheduling billing and record keeping completing work orders plus minor adjustments/repairs to vehicles and equipment and stocking inventory as needed.
Vehicles picked up and delivered as requested. Vehicles washed vacuum and waxed as required. Fuel records maintained. Various motor equipment maintenance and repair duties performed as instructed. Responsible for keeping work and storage areas maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
Ability to schedule and coordinate warranty work with dealerships as needed.
Ability to complete various equipment and vehicle maintenance in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
Must have adequate problem solving skills.
Perform a variety of landscaping grounds maintenance and other regulated duties as assigned.
Work from written or verbal orders and instructions.
Maintain a high standard in the appearance of finished work. Pick up and disposal of campus trash. Furniture and equipment moved from building to building as required.
Use and operate hand and power equipment as required.
Must possess strong record keeping skills for all college equipment and vehicles.
Ability to coordinate and schedule with other departments on maintenance on vehicle timelines.
Develop skill in the safe and efficient use and operation of department equipment.
Observe all safety rules practices and procedures. Work for the good and morale of the organization loyal to the chain of command and supporting the programs and policies of the Facilities and Grounds department.
Ability to coordinate and get multiple quotes on any necessary equipment or jobs that need to be completed.
Must have minimum ASE certified mechanic in A4 Brake and A5 suspension and front end. ASE Master Mechanic preferred.
Available in times of emergency inclement weather and special functions. Ability to shift change when necessary for college events including but not limited to Commencement.
On 24-hour call from November through April for inclement weather. Required to work overtime during Spring clean-up commencement and Alumni weekend and any other campus function.
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a Mass. Drivers License and must obtain a Mass. DOT Medical Card and Mass. Hoisting Engineers License within the first 90 days of employment. Experience in vehicle repair and maintenance with manual dexterity and good mechanical skills required. Experience in welding and fabrication preferred. Ability to lift 50 pounds necessary. Willingness to work shift changes when necessary and be available for 24 hour on-call snow removal work November thru April.
