- A completed relevant Engineering degree
- Must be a Professional Engineer () in good standing and registered with APEGA. Applicants in a different Canadian jurisdiction eligible for Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA) with APEGA may be considered. Registration with APEGA must be obtained prior to the commencement of employment
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant workplace experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Environmental and/or risk management
- Energy management
- Ambient air quality management
- Water quality management
- Integrated pest management
- Environmental assessment and permitting
- Natural capital and nature-based solutions
- Contaminated site/brownfield management (including expertise in legislation remediation andmanagement strategies)
- ISO management systems
- Leading and working in cross-functional teams in large complex organizations
- Detailed working knowledge of the ISO 14001 standard and the regulatory framework applicable to the City of Edmonton

Reporting to the General Supervisor the Senior Environmental Engineer is a key leadership position within the Environmental Management and Utilities Supply Unit. You will act as a vital link between the Citys ISO 14001 Certified Environmental Management System (Enviso) and various City departments providing expert guidance on environmental compliance risk management and environmental performance.
This role involves significant interaction with regulatory bodies and senior City leadership offering strategic advice on complex environmental issues. You will also be responsible for engineering functions related to the Citys environment and climate objectives as set out in the City Plan Climate Resilience Policy Energy Transition Strategy and other strategic planning documents. Success in this role requires specialized expertise and knowledge in environmental management environmental engineering and energy transition.
What will you do:
- Provide expert advice to staff and monitor activities to ensure compliance with municipal provincial and federal environmental legislation
- Work within the Citys ISO Certified Enviso System to set environmental objectives identify controls for
- Lead projects to manage maintain and continually improve the environmental management system
- Develop implement and monitor technical standards and procedures related to the Citys implementation of its environment and climate goals
- Research prepare and authenticate professional work products as per COE and APEGA professional practice standards
- Develop new policies and programs to support lifecycle management emissions reductions and climate change adaptation
- Oversee the identification and management of environmental risks and opportunities
- Lead the implementation of the ISO 14001 environmental management system and support the auditing program
- Direct the annual environmental management system review with senior leadership
- Supervise staff including performance reviews work assignment and professional development
- Investigate environmental nonconformities develop corrective action plans and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
