FPGA Engineer - Limited Duration

Astronics-PECO located in picturesque Clackamas Oregon near the foothills of Mt. Hood designs certifies manufactures and sells a wide range of products to commercial government and military markets throughout the world. Our highly engineered interior and structural aerospace products are supplied to the largest aircraft manufacturers and are installed in aircraft around the globe and our military products are used in critical national defense applications. The Max-Viz enhanced visions systems (EVS) are designed and certified for use as an improvement to safety by a vast array of airplanes helicopters and unmanned-aerial-vehicles in the commercial government and military marketplace. PECO-Controls are well established temperature control devices designed for applications where high quality is a must such as the hospitality industry commercial cooking and other critical applications.

We are seeking an experienced Electrical or Software Engineer with strong FPGA programming skills to assist with upgrading our longwave infrared (LWIR) sensor integration. The role focuses on supporting the transition from an end-of-life sensor to a next-generation solution in our Enhanced Vision System (EVS) product line.

This is anticipated to be a 6-month durationposition ideal for a self-directed FPGA expert with image processing and embedded system experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

FPGA Development:

• Implement and test new SRAM and DMA modules for image data flow.
• Update and optimize image blending and zoom modules to support the new sensor.
• System Integration Support:
• Reverse engineer and adapt legacy image processing blocks for new hardware compatibility.
• Contribute to FPGA design updates and integration.

Calibration & Image Quality Tuning:

• Assist in establishing new rotation-station calibration values.
• Support image timing and color alignment troubleshooting and refinement.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Bachelors degree or higher in Engineering or a related field or equivalent training and experience.
• Proficiency in SystemVerilog for FPGA development.
• Experience with data streaming or data processing pipelines.
• Familiarity with memory buffers and memory management
• Experience with sensor integration and calibration a plus.
• Experience with SRAM and DDRAM is a plus.
• Strong documentation and debugging skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
