Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is recruiting for a Water Treatment Equipment Technician in the Water Line of Business. This position will support the facility and works under the direction of the Treatment plant manager and the Water Treatment Crew Chief. The Water Treatment Equipment Technician will be responsible for the installation maintenance and repair of critical water treatment equipment including chlorination fluoridation and corrosion control systems. By ensuring that this equipment operates effectively and consistently the Technician will directly contribute to the reliability of the Citys water supply minimizing downtime and the risk of service disruptions. These positions are included in the Water LOB annual O&M budget.

Job Responsibilities
- Performs and coordinates the installation maintenance and repair of chlorination hypo chlorination fluoridation corrosion control and related equipment; performs emergency maintenance and the more technically difficult repairs.
- Trains section Water Treatment Operators in equipment preventive maintenance and related troubleshooting techniques.
- Provides technical assistance in design review installation operation and maintenance of new treatment facilities and special in-house projects including equipment replacement and plant modifications.
- Coordinates spare parts inventory for water treatment facilities including record-keeping ordering and stocking of spare parts.
- Keeps maintenance records including those for the preventive maintenance program and for emergency maintenance.
- Organizes and maintains operation and maintenance manuals.

Qualifications
ExperienceOne (1) year of education in an approved water works training program and two (2) years of water treatment equipment installation and maintenance (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
License Certification and Other Requirements
- Current State of Washington drivers license.
- Washington State Certification as Water Distribution Manager II within 12 months of appointment.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Occasionally required to work nights weekends and/or holidays.
- Required to stand walk or bend for extended periods or work in confined spaces.
- Frequently required to handle or work around toxic/hazardous case of emergency must wear and use a breathing apparatus.
- Occasionally required to work at heights up to 100 feet above ground level.
- Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Frequently required to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
- Annual fit test and respiratory exam are mandatory
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with SCADA computer systems and Microsoft Office programs.
- Intermediate knowledge of water treatment equipment i.e. pumps hoses chlorine analyzers etc.
- Skilled handyman with knowledge of the electrical plumbing and pipe fitting trades.
- Experience in a public water distribution system and prior experience in the Water Treatment Industry.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to clearly share information with leadership staff and stakeholders.
- Good interpersonal skills ability to work with people from diverse professional cultural backgrounds.
- The ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.
- Being responsive to operational and emergency needs of the plant and the ability to work under pressure.
- Higher-level WDM/WTPO certifications and Cross Connection certifications.

Workplace Environment:Employees will be required to come into the office five days a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
The full salary range for this position is $43.92 - $47.59 per hour.
