Lead Mechanical Engineer London-Based Higher Education Environment

About the Role

As the Lead Mechanical Engineer youll be responsible for the efficient delivery of all mechanical PPM and reactive maintenance activities ensuring compliance with statutory and contractual SLAs. Youll also oversee the implementation of AWSL policies and manage permit-to-work systems on site.

This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone with strong technical knowledge excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of mechanical PPM and minor works across the site.
  • Ensure compliance with AWSL safety rules policies and permit systems.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the team and client.
  • Maintain and update theMaximo CAFM systemvia tablet.
  • Liaise with subcontractors supervisors and account support to ensure high-quality service.
  • Monitor performance and report to the Area Manager.
  • Ensure safe working practices including LOTO procedures and risk assessments.
  • Support quoting processes for minor works and manage materials/resources efficiently.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and manage contractor escorts and permits.

About You

What Were Looking For

Qualifications & Training:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Building Services (essential)
  • Legionella (L8) trained and competent
  • Apprentice-trained in M&E discipline (desirable)
  • City & Guilds 18th Edition (desirable)
  • Base knowledge of gas and FGAS systems (desirable)

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role across multi-site environments
  • Strong understanding of HVAC BMS and mechanical systems
  • Experience usingCAFM systems(e.g. Maximo)
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and deliver under pressure
  • Knowledge of risk assessments permits and safety procedures
