Roche Diagnostics acquired Stratos Genomics in 2020 for its novel Sequencing by eXpansion (SBX) technology. SBX is an integrated system utilizing molecular engineering biochemistry electrochemistry and protein engineering to sequence DNA with a nanopore sensor rapidly with high accuracy and low cost.
The SBX team is dedicated and passionate about the impact high throughput low-cost DNA sequencing will have on patient outcomes. We are looking for individuals who share this passion and are excited to join a dynamic cross-functional and collaborative Associate Director of Facilities Security and SHE (Safety Health and Environment) will direct site services and safety in support of a dynamic team of scientists in a fast-paced environment.
**This position is based on-site (5 days a week) in Seattle WA
The Opportunity:
Manages the SHE Security and Facilities maintenance to comply with applicable regulatory and company policies utilizing industry best practices and identifying and managing risk.
Reports directly to the Head of SBX Technology. Manages the Facilities Specialist and safety contractors.
Works cross-functionally to develop and support facilities projects and implementing new technology processes including remodels new equipment and reagents etc. . Manages all moves construction upgrades and maintenance for the site.
Leads hazard identification - determining and implementing necessary risk assessment programs/processes as well as related facilities changes.
Responds to and investigates all SHE Security and Facility issues. Supports post-incident analysis to determine mitigation strategies to reduce future incident frequency and impact.
Leads manages and continuously improves all relevant safety processes in a large generator environment including hazardous waste management dangerous goods shipments chemical safety assessments spill safety exposure monitoring biosafety programs etc. Identifies and manages risk and ensures compliance.
Applies knowledge and skills to broadly improve Safety Facilities and Security. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments and reports findings to conjunction with management evaluates initiates and executes policies procedures and programs.
Ensures the site complies with applicable regulatory and company policies and is always inspection ready. May lead government and company interactions related to SHE Security and Facilities requirements including reporting notification facilitating inspections and ensuring closure of corrective actions.
Establishes monitoring solutions for critical facilities and lab equipment to enable after-hours monitoring and meaningful alerts.
Prepares clear response plan documents for safety and facilities scenarios that can be executed by on-site personnel outside of standard business hours. Provides transparent documentation of site fail point areas.
Manages vendors and ensures contract staff are implementing and adhering to all protocols.

Who you are:
You have a Bachelors or masters degree in chemistry safety industrial hygiene or other relevant field.
You have 8 years of progressive experience within a large scale industry such as: technical manufacturing diagnostics chemicals pharmaceuticals oil and gas industry or other relevant industries.
You have 5 years of management experience.
You are available to respond to any Safety Facilities or Security situation that impacts safety or the businesss ability to function (e.g. power outages chemical spills etc.). Some projects and responsibilities will necessitate availability outside of typical business hours.
You are highly self-motivated with exceptional organization and communication skills.
You are driven to quickly learn new skills and techniques in order to support rapidly evolving projects.
You are able to manage multiple projects and objectives simultaneously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
You thrive in high visibility cross-functional roles and will facilitate solid communication between stakeholders. You consistently meet deadlines and keep projects on track.
You understand successful safety security and facilities practices go beyond a compliance checkbox. You champion a solid understanding of processes to identify shortcomings and see around corners.
You are proactive and seek opportunities to improve processes and eliminate facility downtime in a fast-moving biotech environment. You seek to anticipate changing and upcoming facilities demands.
Preferred Qualifications:
You have completed a national certification such as: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Professional Engineer (PE) Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) and CFM (Certified Facility Manager) or FMP (Facility Management Professional).
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Seattle WA is 101200-187 900 Actual pay will be determined based on experience qualifications geographic location and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
