Job Duties:

UW-Superior seeks a Teaching Assistant Professor to assist in the launch of an innovative Master of Social Work (MSW) degree completion program that emphasizes personal professional and systemic the first year this person will have an important role in the development of MSW curriculum including the planning of online and in-person teaching learning retreats and field programs.

The role requires strong collaborative work ethic commitment to excellence in social work education and community partnership. The person will assist the Program Coordinator with implementation and professional accreditation. Upon implementation the primary role of this position will be teaching.

This is a 9-month appointment with regular opportunity for summer teaching.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • Facilitates classroom online and/or laboratory instruction including assessment of student performance
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations

Job Responsibilities:

Curriculum and Program Development:

  • Assist with the development of curriculum to maintain relevance and rigor.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate innovative teaching strategies including academic service-learning into the curriculum.
  • Support the program adherence to Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation standards.

Student Success and Support:

  • Teach up to 4 courses a semester upon implementation.
  • Provide academic advising to students enrolled in the MSW program.
  • Support strategies to enhance student recruitment retention and graduation rates.

Scholarship

  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work consistent with social work program guidelines.

Accreditation and Compliance:

  • Ensure that the program maintains accreditation by meeting or exceeding the standards set by accrediting bodies such as the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
  • Represent the social work program in the community including partnerships with educational partners healthcare organizations advisory boards and professional associations.
  • Participate in minimum level of department and university service.

Other Duties:

  • Complete required trainings and professional development as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in Social Work from an accredited institution; or a doctorate in a related discipline and an earned M.S.W. or M.S.S.W. from an accredited social work program with a minimum of two years post masters social work practice experience
    • OR an earned M.S.W. or M.S.S.W. from an accredited social work program and a minimum of five years of post-masters social work practice experience
  • Higher education teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching or learning in an online environment.
  • Eligible for licensure in Wisconsin or Minnesota

This position is currently ineligible for H1-B sponsorship. A qualification for this position includes independent eligibility to work within the United States upon hire date.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • A well-established history of direct practice trauma-informed care and science and practice of mindfulness and well-being
  • Experience engaging with community partnerships and program development.
  • Clinical practice experience.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to teach in multiple curriculum areas and levels of engagement clinical assessment intervention and evaluation with individuals families groups organizations and communities.

Compensation: Salary range for this position is: $60000 - $65000 annually. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time off competitively priced health/dental/vision/life insurance tax-advantaged savings accounts and participation in the nationally recognized Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) pension fund.
