Position Overview
The SATCOM Technician is responsible for the maintenance and troubleshooting of satellite communication (SATCOM) systems at our teleport facility. This role requires deep technical expertise strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to support both day-to-day operations and emergency situations. The SATCOM Technician collaborates with NOC Technicians Engineering team vendors and cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability and operational excellence. This position includes mentoring responsibilities and contributes to the continuous improvement of operational procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and troubleshoot RF baseband and SATCOM systems and equipment.
- Ensure uninterrupted satellite signal transmission and reception.
- Resolve issues involving satellite modems up/down converters and IP-based transport systems.
- Provide escalation support for complex or unresolved SATCOM issues.
- Collaborate with Tier I technicians and engineering team for efficient resolution of recurring or critical issues.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of configurations incidents and resolutions.
- Prepare maintenance logs technical reports and SOPs.
- Ensure documentation complies with internal standards and audit requirements.
- Train and mentor junior technicians on troubleshooting techniques and SOPs.
- Develop training content and lead sessions to strengthen team capabilities.
- Conduct routine audits and quality checks on SATCOM infrastructure.
- Assist engineering in planning and executing scheduled upgrades and maintenance windows.
- Participate in the development and review of SOPs and maintenance checklists.
- Provide on-call support as part of a rotating schedule.
- Respond to critical outages performing rapid fault isolation and system recovery.
- Provide clear professional updates during incident resolution.
- Contribute to internal reviews and improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
Qualifications:
Required
- 35 years of working experience in satellite communications RF or IT network support.
- Strong working knowledge of RF systems satellite modems IP networking and system integration.
- Understanding of Linux and Windows-based systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting documentation and time management skills.
- Experience using test equipment such as spectrum analyzers signal generators and power meters.
Preferred
- Hands-on experience with routers switches firewalls and SNMP-based monitoring tools.
- Experience with teleport or broadcast operations.
