Description

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking a qualified Maintenance and Operations Crew Supervisor Senior to supervise the Maintenance and Operations Crew for the City of Richmond Floodwall unit. This position directs work and supervises work crews engaged in performing routine maintenance. Incumbents supervise the work of assigned crews (typically at the level of Maintenance Specialists and Equipment Operators) and perform the most advanced work of those supervised. Work may include: directing workflow and developing schedules; maintaining records; investigating and resolving citizen concerns and complaints; participating in long-range planning; making decisions about equipment materials and supply usage; managing inventory; and coordinating with contractors vendors and other service providers. Additionally the incumbent will supervise staff including conducting performance evaluations coordinating training assigning and monitoring work and implementing hiring discipline and termination procedures. As assigned incumbents may also serve as a working supervisor/lead worker.


This position is considered an Essential Personnel which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies critical or hazardous conditions or inclement weather.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Plan work schedules coordinate and oversee projects and services
  • Report directly to a superintendent and perform routine administrative duties
  • Approve crews work schedule and leave approval
  • Work with the superintendent on preparing ACOE annual reports
  • Resolve complaints with coworkers conduct performance evaluations and make disciplinary decisions
  • Review and approve completed work orders and close work orders currently in the CCMS system
  • Participate in long-range planning
  • Conduct pre- and post-inspection on key components of the floodwall for flooding
  • Make decisions on equipment materials and supply and inventory usage
  • Coordinate with contractors vendors and other services

Qualifications Special Certifications and Licenses

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Four years of experience in the assigned area
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

LICENSING CERTIFICATIONS and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Drivers License within 30 days of hire
  • Some assignments may require a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Drivers License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Computer skills in Word Excel and maintenance management programs

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly stand walk lift finger grasp talk see hear and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists hands and fingers; frequently climb balance stoop kneel crouch reach push pull lift feel; and occasionally crawl push and pull. The working conditions may include frequent exposure to hazardous physical conditions and hazardous materials; occasional exposure to atmospheric conditions extreme temperatures intense noise travel outside the organizations location and environmental terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties this classification is considered to be medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
