Job Description
Fahrenheit Advisors has been retained to lead the search for a Senior Director of Financial Operations / Controller on behalf of our client the William & Mary Business School Foundation located in Williamsburg VA. This hybrid role requires on-site work with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week.
About the Role
The Senior Director of Financial Operations / Controller will oversee and enhance the Foundations financial infrastructure in alignment with its mission to support the Raymond A. Mason School of Business. Reporting to senior leadership this dynamic leadership role will be responsible for fund accounting financial reporting and analysis budgeting systems management and vendor oversight while ensuring strong fiscal governance and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily financial operations including budgeting forecasting fund accounting and reporting
- Manage financial systems (preferably Blackbaud Financial Edge and Raisers Edge) to ensure accuracy and efficiency
- Lead audit preparation efforts and ensure compliance with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting standards
- Partner with leadership to provide strategic financial planning and analysis
- Supervise and develop financial operations staff
- Prepare and present financial reports to the Board of Trustees and senior executives
- Act as a financial liaison to internal departments university leadership and external partners
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA preferred
- Experience managing or supporting endowment funds preferred
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a Controller
- Experience with Blackbaud or other not-for-profit financial systems
- Deep knowledge of not-for-profit and fund accounting including GAAP compliance
- Strong analytical problem-solving and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage financial reporting budgeting and software systems in a complex environment
- Self-starter with excellent time management capabilities

- Schedule: Occasional evenings and weekends may be required to meet business needs
