Job Description

Job Summary

The County of San Diegoiscurrently accepting applications for:

PHYSICAL THERAPIST

Official class title: Occupational/Physical Therapist

Interviews will take place beginning the week of August 11 2025.
Job offer for selected candidates will be made no later than August 22 2025.

Future Salary Increases

** June 26 2026 - 3.50% increase to base pay (3.50% Across-the-Board)

** June 25 2027 - 3.0% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board)

The Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) utilizes Physical Therapists at California Childrens Services. Incumbents are responsible for administering medically necessary physical therapy services as prescribed by physicians to children with neuromuscular and/or musculoskeletal disorders. The Sheriffs Departmentalso uses Physical Therapists that work in a detention facility. Incumbents are responsible for developing rehabilitative programs and assisting incarcerated individuals. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for both HHSA and the Sheriffs Department.

HIRING TIMELINE AND DATES


The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.

    • Job offer and Background Process begins week of August 21 2025. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
    • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
    • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Licensed as aPhysical Therapist with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs Physical Therapy Board of California or be in the process of obtaining licensure in California.

Note: If hired graduates of accredited or approved schools of physical therapy that have filed an application for a license with PTBC must obtain their license within six (6) months from the time of hire or be terminated from County Service. Physical therapy applicants who are licensed Physical Therapists in another state besides California must show proof of application for licensure as a physical therapist with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs Physical Therapy Board of California. These Physical Therapist license applicants must obtain their license as provided in the California Business and Professions Code; Division 2; Chapter 5.7; Section 2636.5 and Section 2639 or they will be terminated from County service.

A valid National Provider Identification Number (NPI) is required at the time of employment. Incumbents are required to maintain the NPI throughout employment in this class.
Working Conditions

Incumbents may be in contact with violent contagious or unpredictable patients. Incumbents will be required to make periodic visits to clients homes.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

As part of the County of San Diegos pre-employment process prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.


EVALUATION PROCESS

Qualified applicants will be placed on asix (6) monthemployment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in the supplemental questionnaire. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide on the supplemental application form will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system.
