PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Twilight is a 10 week intensive credit recovery program designed to give high school seniors who have failed courses in any major subject area a chance to earn back credits to graduate on time. It is held twice per year in the Fall and Spring semesters at the John D. OBryant School. Students are able to choose from a range of core courses and can earn up to two credits per Twilight session.
REPORTS TO: Position reports to the Office of Academics and Professional Learning.
PROGRAM SCHEDULE: The Twilight Site Coordinator is required to attend all scheduled planning meetings trainings and professional development sessions work all required program hours as well as complete all required wrap up duties as indicated in job description.
The Program will run during the following dates and times (see full calendar here):
- Tuesdays & Thursdays 4-7pm (Session 1: 4-5:30; Session 2: 5:30-7)
- Site Coordinator is required to be present at least 15 minutes before program start daily (3:45PM)
- September 30 - December 11 (snow makeup days as needed December 16 & 18)
- One hour staff orientation session September 25 on Zoom 5-6PM
RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee Twilight site planning and programming. Supervise teachers paraprofessionals and other program staff serve as site lead for instructional support and oversee operational management for programming.
Specific duties may include but are not limited to:
- Provide leadership and management at Twilight site
- Participate in the hiring of teachers paraprofessionals and support staff
- Attend training and participate in development of program schedule in advance of Twilight
- Ensure teaching staff have access to appropriate curriculum materials related to their content area
- Ensure that necessary staff are trained on and competent in the use of BPS online learning platform/s which may include scheduling training session/s with central office admin
- Monitor daily student attendance and completion rates in online courses reporting on/off track status frequently to counselors students and/or families
- Receive training on school dinner meals and distribute meals to students
- Ensure student grades are posted to transcripts after each semester
- Engage and collaborate with families as partners in planning and problem solving
- Establish a culturally competent trauma sensitive learning climate
- Manage student data systems (e.g. attendance schedules etc.)
- Track work of BPS teachers and CFCs complete time reporting forms for payroll; arrange for coverage in the event of teaching staff absence
- Execute and enforce site policies and student discipline code
- Coordinate emergency response procedures in the event of emergency
- Demonstrate completion of other critical tasks and duties as requested by Office of Expanded Learning Opportunities.
TERMS:
- BTU Teacher Rate - Total compensation is set based on hours of work including professional development on-site program time and additional duties.
- Payroll will be processed after receipt of completed timesheets in the pay period after the completion of each Twilight semester in accordance with BPS payroll schedule.
- Per contractual requirements Managerial Employees may not receive a stipend for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:
- Bachelors degree.
- Massachusetts teaching license or school administrator license.
- At least 1 year of professional teaching or administrator experience
- Experience with online learning and familiarity with Acellus the districts online learning platform
- Demonstrated ability to serve as an instructional leadersupervising other educators providing constructive feedback and fostering collaboration.
- Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:
- Current teacher or administrator in the Boston Public Schools.
- Prior experience working in Twilight and/or another Expanded Learning program
- Technology-savvy
