POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: AmeriCorps Program Coordinator (Part-Time)

REPORTS TO: Chief Operations Officer

HOURS: 20-25 Hours/week

COMPENSATION: $16 an hour

Position Summary:

The part-time AmeriCorps Program Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting youth and strengthening both school and out-of-school time communities. This position leads the recruitment placement and ongoing support of AmeriCorps Members who serve in local schools and Boys & Girls Clubs with a focus on helping students develop social-emotional skills improve academically and thrive in all areas of life.

By building a strong pipeline of caring trained adults this role directly supports the development and delivery of high-impact programming for Boys & Girls Club youth during essential out-of-school hours.

Key Responsibilities:

Member Recruitment & Placement:

  • Lead recruitment efforts to bring in AmeriCorps Members from colleges community organizations and local networks.
  • Match Members with school and Boys & Girls Club sites based on youth needs site capacity and Member interests.
  • Collaborate with Club and school site staff to define roles and responsibilities for Members in supporting academic and SEL-focused activities.

Member Support & Supervision:

  • Provide coaching and supervision to ensure Members are equipped to support Club and school-based youth effectively.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Member training in trauma-informed practices SEL strategies and youth engagement techniques.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for Member needs and site-based support.

Program Development & Quality:

  • Work with Club staff to align AmeriCorps support with program priorities such as homework help mentoring enrichment activities and SEL.
  • Assist with the development and refinement of programming that addresses both academic growth and social-emotional development.
  • Support the integration of AmeriCorps Members into the Clubs daily schedule and special initiatives.
  • Attend compliance meetings/training during and after hours.

Compliance & Administration:

  • Track Member hours and service logs to meet grant and compliance requirements with AmericaLearns and the grants system.
  • Collect impact data and success stories to demonstrate outcomes.
  • Ensure program documentation reporting and evaluations are completed accurately and on time.

Relationships

  • Internal: Maintain close contact with AmeriCorps Members and supervisors to receive/provide information discuss issues explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
  • External: Maintain contact with new potential members community outreach or other businesses. May be required to communicate with or work closely with school principals and classroom instructors.

Additional Responsibilities

  • May be required to drive a Club van.
  • May be required to answer phones and perform other light administrative duties.

Qualifications

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience in working with children
  • Knowledge of youth development
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
  • Ability to deal with the general public (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
  • Valid State Drivers License (van drivers only)
  • Ability to work independently balance priorities and support both site staff and AmeriCorps Members
  • Knowledge of SEL frameworks youth engagement strategies and program design

Skills/Knowledge Preferred

  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Bachelors degree in education youth development social work or a related field (or equivalent experience) preferred or Hours completed towards an elementary or secondary education degree
  • Experience with AmeriCorps youth programs or out-of-school time services preferred
    Strong communication organizational and relationship-building skills
