POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lead Family Advocate reports to the Program Manager and serves as a senior team member providing direct support to parents/primary caretakers and peer staff. This position requires strong leadership and administrative skills as well as an in-depth knowledge of all systems and services offered to families by Placer Countys Childrens System of Care (CSOC) and Adult System of Care (ASOC). The Lead Family Advocate delivers direct peer support resources and guidance to parents/primary caretakers navigating system services and provides parent/primary caretaker perspective while serving as a core member of select multidisciplinary teams within Placer Countys Childrens and Adult Systems of Care. This position works collaboratively with representatives from adult and childrens behavioral and mental health child welfare juvenile probation and education to offer comprehensive support for families of children and youth with severe behavioral emotional or mental health disorders. Under the guidance of the Program Manager the Lead Family Advocate uses their expansive experience and knowledge to support the administrative program and peer staff needs to ensure the smooth delivery of Cal Voices contracted peer support services in Placer County. Reliability accuracy maturity critical thinking sound independent judgment and a strong work ethic are required at all times. This is a fast-paced work environment where new tasks unexpectedly arise and priorities frequently shift so advanced organizational skills personal flexibility and internal motivation are essential. This position must maintain Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification and Parent Caregiver and Family Member specialization.
Cal Voices is a peer-run grassroots behavioral health advocacy agency. As such this position must be held by someone with personal lived experience as the parent/primary caretaker of a youth or child with complex behavioral health needs. The person in this position must be familiar with Californias Public Behavioral Health System (PBHS) the Childrens System of Care (including childrens behavioral health services the child welfare/foster care system and the juvenile justice system) Adult System of Care (including accessing behavioral health services for adults) self-help and resiliency principles and fundamental principles of peer support and family advocacy. Qualified individuals who are the parent/primary caretaker of a youth who has received public behavioral health services in any California county are bilingual/bicultural or identify as members of traditionally underserved populations (BIPOC LGBTQ veterans immigrants/refugees former foster youth experience with houselessness or justice system involvement etc.) are strongly desired. Fluency in Spanish or another threshold language is also desired.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Personal Lived Experience
- As the parent or primary caregiver of a child or youth with complex behavioral health needs
- Education and Work Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Professional Credentials (A B )1
- A. Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist (MPSS) Certification (that is current and in good standing with no record of professional discipline) with a Parent Caregiver and Family Member specialization; and
- B. At least three consecutive years of professional experience as a Family Advocate working in the Childrens System of Care in any California county or directly managing program operations contracts and staff in the mental health field
- A current and valid Class C California Driver License
- Immediate access to reliable personal transportation throughout the workday
- Auto insurance coverage that meets the minimum legal requirements in California
- Ability to perform all of the Job Duties for this position with or without a reasonable accommodation

- Ability to meet all of the Physical and Mental Requirements for this position
- Ability to pass a criminal background screening if offered this position

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Disclaimers: Employment at Cal Voices is strictly at-will. Position sustainability relies on the continuity of existing contracts and funding levels. Although not guaranteed future pay increases may be given based on revenue growth demonstrated skills quality of work performance and/or value of the employees contributions to the agency.
- Starting Compensation: $28.61 per hour
- Benefits: This position is eligible for employer-paid medical (up to 95%) dental (100%) vision (100%) and life insurance (100% of $50000 policy) plans. Eligible employees may purchase family/dependent health benefits and additional life insurance through these plans.
