Summary of Duties:
To assist in the implementation of a comprehensive guidance and counseling program that works to meet the social emotional occupational and academic needs of students at Sparta Middle School.
Required Qualifications:
School Counseling Endorsement (NT) on a Valid Michigan Teachers Certificate and/or Masters Degree in School Counseling
Reports to:
SMS Building Principal
SMS Counselor Roles & Responsibilities:
- Academic and personal counseling
- Individual and group social/emotional counseling
- Crisis Counseling for students and families
- Offer mental health and substance abuse referrals
- PSAT8 & M-STEP Building Coordinator (Planning Execution and Interpretation)
- Participates in all Child Study Meetings and implements Tier 2 & 3 Interventions
- Assists in Master Schedule
- Individual Student Scheduling
- Coordinate Resources for Teachers and be fluent with the adopted SEL Curriculum (Second Step)
- Building 504 Coordinator/Co-Coordinator
- Member of District Counseling PLC (Professional Learning Community)
- Support District by being trained in CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) and attending team meetings 2x/year
- Co-lead PBIS Building Support TeamFacilitating data-driven dialogue using SWIS Data with Child Study Team. Pulls data for district and county level dialogue around PBIS.
- Training to support Threat Assessment Team through B-TAM training
- Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT)
- 6th Grade Camp Coordinator
- Liaison between parents faculty students and administration
- Provide Career Development support (EDPs)Created in 7th grade and updated in 8th Grade
- Assist in 5th-6th grade transition/8th-9th grade transition
