The UK Higher Education sector is changing in response to the shifts in the capacity availability and opportunity offered by an ever-advancing range of digital technologies. The expectations of students and staff are changing continually. Technology-Integrated Learning is now an integral part of the overall student-teaching experience of their education.

To support the Universitys ambitions to be a place of transformative education the Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL) houses its own educational technology team tasked to support and enhance laboratory-based learning experiences.

Department overview

The Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL) at the University of Birmingham is a state-of-the-art 40 million investment in STEM education encompassing cutting-edge facilities and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Opened in October 2018 the CTL main building houses three laboratories: a wet lab dry lab and e-lab in addition to the CTL Biolabs and CTL Engineering sister laboratories.

Supporting schools across two colleges Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) and Life and Environmental Sciences (LES). The CTL EdTech Teams purpose is to enhance laboratory teaching by combining practical activities with innovative uses of educational technology.

Role Summary

Based in the CTLs Educational Technology Team this post will play a crucial role in creating and implementing innovative educational resources for various STEM disciplines. The primary responsibility will be to design develop and build engaging interactive digital learning materials such as bespoke interactives videos and other educational media. Using online and blended pedagogies the role will collaborate with academics to build outstanding learning experiences that meet CTLs and the institutions wider digital education objectives.

Secondary to this the role is expected to assist in the administration and potential development of existing products and systems. One key tool will be Mobius an online assessment tool for STEM.

Success in this position requires strong technical expertise in developing digital learning resources excellent communication skills the ability to manage multiple projects effectively and creativity. At the CTL you will contribute to shaping STEM education by leveraging technology to create transformative and engaging learning experiences for students.

Main Duties

The role will provide crucial development expertise in the creation of educational media. Working closely with academics you will identify key aspects of their teaching methods and content to ensure the creation of tailored learning experiences. By employing online and blended learning methodologies you will collaborate with academics to design and deliver exceptional learning experiences that align with the CTLs objectives.
