You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Building and Grounds Worker I is primarily responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary environment for employees visitors and guests of the Science Museum of Minnesota during business hours. Additionally the position will support caring for the parking ramp and grounds by performing trash removal cleaning and winter maintenance activities as directed. The Building and Grounds Worker I will support the overall Facilities department with activities such as moving furniture and equipment and other duties as assigned.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Perform essential cleaning tasks during business hours to support a positive visitor and workplace experience: dust polish stainless steel and spot clean glass extract furniture sanitize high touch surfaces clean restrooms and refill product dispensers floor care maintain trash/recycle/compost containers and restock supplies.
Respond to requests for custodial support occurring during business hours in lobby and store dining areas galleries Omni theater and auditorium classrooms event center and office areas.
Provide full custodial support in work areas requiring supervision or specialty training (e.g. collections storage rooms conservation and biology labs production shop building services rooms etc.).
Monitor kitchenettes break rooms and meeting rooms; restock supplies clean dry erase boards and reset furniture.
Assist with office furniture move add and change activities; utilize moving equipment and small hand tools to move large furniture pieces and assist with light furniture assembly with direction.
Assist Parking and Grounds units with performing essential cleaning activities in the parking ramp (all levels and stairwells): litter pick up maintain trash/recycle/compost containers sweeping and power washing.
Assist Grounds unit with winter maintenance duties: light shoveling ice mitigation and snow blowing as directed.
Communicate property damage equipment breakdowns and other facility condition issues to supervisor; submit requests for service as needed.
Maintains equipment by cleaning it daily and following manufacturers procedures and protocols.
Follow all procedures as directed in order to complete job tasks safely and in compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.
Responsible for safe operation of equipment used to perform primary and support duties including in work areas requiring supervision or specialty training (e.g. collections storage rooms conservation and biology labs production shop building services rooms parking ramp etc.) which may include aerial lift hand tools furniture mover cart trash compactor walk behind sweeper hard surface autoscrubber hard surface burnisher walk behind extractor ride on vacuum backpack and/or upright vacuum indoor restroom pressure
washer/wet vac exterior pressure washer hand shovels powered machinery for ice mitigation and snow removal.
Ensure all area functions are completed safely and ensure museum security.
Perform other supportive duties as apparent or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High school or equivalent
Experience: Previous custodial experience required.
Compensation for this role is $19.50/hour.
