Purpose
In this role you will be responsible for all aspects of emission and fuel consumption testing from an engineering perspective including liaising with the client working with the technicians to deliver the project overseeing the vehicle preparation equipment installation testing and then formulating and validating test results into data packs and test reports. All testing will be performed within our state of the art 4WD Variable Temperature Emissions Chamber (VTEC) for heavy duty vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Engineering vehicle emissions testing projects for a wide variety of customers.
- Performing a variety of tests predominantly on chassis dynamometers driving to various cycles.
- Working with other engineers to design test and timing plans.
- To liaise with the client to ensure the project is delivered to their expectations.
- Liaise with Emissions technicians to ensure they know what they are doing and why allowing them to perform the testing.
- Collating test results from various logging equipment and validating for approval.
- To be conversant with the appropriate testing Regulations and look for improvements and manage change appropriately.
- Developing improved systems of work and data handling and manipulation.
- Ensure all H&S and quality procedures have been adhered to UTAC quality systems and health and safety procedures.
- Working 40hr week with possibility of overtime and flexible hours.
- Undertake analysis of results including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations
- To report review and provide authorisation of results
- Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times.
Qualifications :
Qualifications
- Automotive Engineering Degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline.
Core competencies:
- Experience of chassis dynamometer emissions and fuel economy testing
- Good project management
- Analysing and compiling technical data
- Knowledge of engine exhaust after-treatment and emissions
- Liaising with customers and building relationships
- The ability to work from and create procedures
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong verbal written and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organisational analytical and problem solving skills
Advantageous Qualities:
- A good understanding of vehicle Propulsions
- Experience in Propulsion vehicle testing and development
- Relevant experience of vehicle emissions and fuel economy testing on chassis dynamometer
- Relevant experience of testing vehicles for impacts on emissions and fuel economy
- CAN data logging ETAS INCA experience is beneficial
- Experience of emissions Regulations
- General IT skills especially MS Excel.
- AVL Concerto AVL iGEM and AVL PUMA knowledge.

- Full UK driving licence & own transport (UTAC Millbrook is not easily assessable via public transport)
