Job Description

Parks Heritage and Tourism Interpreter II

Position #:

Location: DeGray Lake Resort State Park Bismarck AR

Closing date: Until Filled

This position is responsible for planning coordinating directing and presenting interpretive programs and special events to park visitors civic groups and private organizations. Duties include researching and recording data regarding programs organizing and preparing press releases reports and brochures preparing slide presentations exhibits and written scripts for audio-visual programs supervising park operations in the absence of other uniformed personnel and assisting the Superintendent in planning and operations including participating in emergency response situations. Duties also include public relations conservation and protection of plant and animal life in the park maintaining hiking trails purchasing materials and performing office duties. Applicant must have or be able to complete the AGFC Boater Education Course the American Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid course and ARC CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Applicant must have a high comfort level with the water strong swimming skills the ability to operate watercraft and a willingness to work with live animals. Experience with Microsoft Office software photographic and audio-visual equipment and writing of publications is preferred. Must be able to work a varied schedule including nights weekends and holidays and be willing to work in adverse weather. A criminal background check and driving record check are required.

Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications: At least two years of experience in interpretive programming environmental education museums education or a related field. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements except for certification or licensure requirements upon approval of the qualifications review committee.

Job Summary

The Parks Heritage and Tourism Interpreter II is responsible for developing and conducting engaging interpretive programs that educate and inspire visitors about Arkansass natural cultural and historical resources. This position plays a key role in public outreach program development and resource preservation working within state parks historic sites and other heritage locations.

Primary Responsibilities

Design and present educational programs guided tours and interactive exhibits focused on Arkansass natural and cultural visitors of all ages through storytelling demonstrations and hands-on special events living history programs and nature walks to enhance visitor exceptional customer service by answering visitor inquiries and offering with educators and community organizations to promote heritage tourism and outdoor in historical and environmental research to ensure program accuracy and with conservation staff to promote and protect natural and cultural in historical reenactments artifact preservation and environmental stewardship interpretive tools props and presentation records of program attendance visitor feedback and outreach efforts.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills for engaging diverse to translate complex historical or environmental topics into engaging and accessible of interpretive methods heritage tourism and environmental education to develop and deliver age-appropriate educational in program design storytelling and interactive learning problem-solving skills and ability to handle guest inquiries and working with diverse audiences including children families and school attention to detail and ability to conduct historical cultural or ecological management skills to balance programming administrative tasks and visitor interactions.

Minimum Qualifications

At least two years of experience in interpretive programming environmental education museums education or a related field.
