Position Summary The Chemo-Therapy Infusion RN oversees and directs the care of patients with hematologic malignancies and oncologic diagnoses. This includes surgical and medical patients in the inpatient outpatient or radiation oncology departments. The Chemo-Therapy Infusion RN oversees and directs the care provided by assistive personnel maintaining final accountability for the care given to assigned patients.
Essential Functions -Promote the mission vision and values of the organization. -Establish standard methods of care utilizing evidence-based practice and best practice standards. -Performs assessment of patients in the areas of biophysical needs psychosocial needs performance status score self-care needs educational needs spiritual and emotional needs and discharge or transfer needs. -Administers blood products medications chemotherapy agents biotherapy agents analgesics and hematopoietic growth factors to patients with cancer following age-specific guidelines and standards. -Follows standard policies and procedures to perform medical orders according to administration procedures for chemotherapy biotherapy analgesics hematopoietic growth factors immunosuppressive agents and antiemetics while following regulations and policies for safe handling and patient protection. -Demonstrates competency in the performance of simple and complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as venipuncture administration of IV fluids care of vascular access devices and de-clotting of lines. -Assesses patient and family learning needs physical and mental abilities and readiness to learn. -Documents the education experience for patients and families including the need to reinforce information on subsequent visits. -Demonstrates competency in telephone triage including the ability to assess the problem and plan the appropriate patient intervention. -Develops a plan of care based on biophysical psychosocial and other clinical goals and outcomes for patients with cancer. -Prioritizes the plan of care as the patient assessment changes using evidence-based clinical knowledge. -Uses an interprofessional team approach to implement the plan of care for patients and families. -Incorporates the physical psychosocial spiritual and discharge information into a plan of care for patients. -Evaluates patient readiness for discharge or transfer in collaboration with other members of the team. -Interprets and follows physician or advanced practice provider orders. -Monitors analyzes and communicates laboratory data imaging and other tests for determination of change in patient status. -OSHA Blood borne pathogens Class I. -Performs other duties as assigned. -Follows all safety regulations for inpatients inclusive of risk assessment call light management safe use of medical devices and position of bed and equipment. -Completes adverse drug event forms or other quality reports as indicated by institutional policy. -Participates as a member of the performance improvement team. -Provides translation services as indicated. -Mentors and serves as a preceptor for less experienced staff as needed. -Contributes to data for the oncology dashboard. -Coordinates the transition for patients to the community. -Seeks opportunities for professional development by using library and online resources from organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology and Oncology Nursing Society. -Adhere to dress code appearance is neat and clean. -Complete annual education requirements. -Always maintain patient confidentiality. -Report to work on time and as scheduled. -Wear identification while on duty. -Maintain regulatory requirements including all state federal and local regulations. -Always represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. -Comply with all organizational policies and standards. -Proficiency in clinical management of complex patients -Ability to cope with changing priorities and schedules -Flexibility and multitasking skills -Strong ability to use data and computer systems and electronic health records in support of patient care delivery -Strong judgment and critical analytic skills
Work Experience -Two years of oncology experience preferred. - Oncology EMR experience preferred. -Current knowledge of the latest trends skills procedures and protocols in hematology-oncology and internal medicine practice -Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients within specific age groups human development stages and cultural groups -Understanding of the latest evidence-based oncology immunology pharmacology community health and cultural sensitivity information -Knowledge of chronic illness and comorbidity management -Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients in the clinical setting per scope of practice -Competency in coordinating care for patients in oncology care with other interprofessional staff -Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with members of the interprofessional team Education -Licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse required. -Oncology certified nurse certification preferred. -Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider card preferred. -Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
