  • Job Title: Monroe County Learning Bank Adult Education Director

    Position Summary:

    The Adult Education Director is responsible for managing adult education programs and services offered by Monroe Public Schools (MPS) for eligible K12 students and adults within the Monroe County community. The Director is responsible for overseeing planning development implementation and evaluation of all adult education programs. This includes ongoing strategies reviewing and writing grants reporting to funders and collaborating with the MPS Finance Director to create budgets.

    The Director also overseas all day-to-day operations creating an environment to achieve the Learning Bank Networks Mission Providing Connections to Education and Skilled (family sustainable) Jobs. Within this framework the Adult Education Director oversees full and part- time instructional and support staff as well as volunteers to coordinate and implement classroom and individualized instruction strategies for English Second Language (ESL) Jail (HSE) Integrated Education and Training (IET) High School Equivalency (HSE) High School Credit/Diploma (HSC) and Adult Secondary Education (ASE) students.

    Program guidelines and metrics for success are created in accordance with the State of Michigan Office of Adult Education.

    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Plan develop and implement adult education strategies including - outreach recruitment intake and assessment development of education strategies and plans for HSE ESL ABE IET HSC and computer-based skill development.
    • Manage program budgets: The Adult Education Director is responsible for collaborating with the MPS Finance Director to create and manage program budgets - ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately.
    • Recruit and train instructors: The Adult Education Director is responsible for recruiting and ensuring that instructors are prepared for adult education programs.
    • Supervise Learning Bank Staff - instructors support staff tutors and volunteers.
    • The Adult Education Director oversees management of the day-to-day operations of the Learning Bank e.g. student instruction engagement and retention technology distribution policy and procedure creation and implementation and staff support.
    • Manage ongoing operations of the GED Test Center - located in the Monroe Middle School e.g. scheduling personnel management and ensuring test administration aligns with Pearson Vue Guidelines.
    • Oversee program evaluation: The Adult Education Director is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of adult education programs developing evaluation metrics and monitoring progress towards program goals.
    • Develop partnerships: The Adult Education Director is responsible for considering trends and developing partnerships with local and regional workforce programs adult ed providers organizations training programs colleges and employers.
    • Participate in monthly Regional 9 and 10 meetings - to ensure fiscal and program responsibilities are aligned with state mandates and initiatives.
    • Attend meetings sponsored by Michigan Association of Community and Adult Education (MACAE) - to stay abreast of best practices and participate in training initiates that improve program effectiveness.
    • Manage administrative tasks related to entering data properly - to ensure accurate outcome reports from the Michigan Adult Education Reporting System (MAERS) then evaluating these reports to improve program effectiveness. Additional oversight is required for other database management systems such as and Google Resource folders.
    • Meet performance objectives required in Section 107 School Aid grants Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act grants (WIOA) and other local and regional grants.
    • Conduct and participate in staff meetings community partner networks and other community projects.
    • Ensure compliance with Monroe Public Schools (MPS) and State adult education regulations and policies. Adhere to Monroe Public Schools code of ethics and comply with local state and federal laws.
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelors degree in education adult education or related field. Masters degree preferred.
    • 3 years of experience in adult education or similar program management.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Grant writing skills preferred.
    • Strong leadership and management skills.
    • Knowledge of adult learning theory and best practices.
    • Familiarity with program evaluation methods and techniques preferred especially with the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO).
    • Ability to work collaboratively with instructors staff and external partners.

    Working Conditions:
    The Adult Education Director typically works in an office setting with occasional evening or weekend work required to attend meetings or events. They may need to travel occasionally to attend conferences or meetings with partners. The role may also require some physical activity such as moving materials or equipment.

    Salary: $60000 - $70000 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
    The salary range for the Adult Education Director varies depending on the size and location of the organization as well as the candidates qualifications and experience.
