Summary: The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Senior Manager is responsible for all aspects of management and financial oversight of the operations of the AJCC. The Senior Manager is responsible for the development maintenance and promulgation of the AJCC Cancer Staging System. This position is responsible for developing and managing a program budget and multiple federal and non-profit grants and contracts and is responsible for developing business models to disseminate staging content. This position supports multiple committees specialized work groups and individual contributors including many ACS Fellows and physician leaders and serves as an official liaison to multiple committees and organizations on behalf of the AJCC and the College. The Senior Manager is responsible for directing and managing program staff who are responsible for executing tasks and initiatives to support the strategic initiatives and the daily operations of the AJCC.
This exempt position will report to the Associate Vice President Cancer Programs in the Division of Research and Optimal Patient Care. It is based in our Chicago office and is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office/2 days per week remote.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $132000- $170000 (commensurate with related experience).
Responsibilities:
- Work with Cancer Programs leadership and AJCC volunteer leaders to identify objectives and priorities determine resource needs and develop strategies to achieve goals and objectives. Manage the activities of the AJCC Executive Committee and oversee AJCC program staff leading AJCC Committees and Expert Panels.
- Develop and manage comprehensive business models for products and services that sustain and expand the financial stability of the AJCC for maintaining the Cancer Staging System. Manage multiple federal contracts and grants; ensure implementation of deliverables to secure future funding. Develop and monitor multiple program and grant budgets.
- Provide strategic direction for AJCC content development. Work with AJCC Project Manager Editorial Committee and external partners to update and maintain the scientific content of the AJCC Cancer Staging System on a continuous basis. Monitor and refine work plans of Expert Panels to align with technical development schedule.
- Overall management and strategic direction of AJCC technology. Work with AJCC Technical Developer to manage and update AJCC technical infrastructure and digital assets. Lead planning and execution of technology strategy in collaboration with ACS IT leadership to ensure products and services keep pace with the demands of customers and the changes in healthcare informatics and data standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholder groups in the clinical and cancer surveillance communities. Actively participate in committees work groups and initiatives to ensure AJCC remains engaged in critical initiatives occurring in cancer and healthcare informatics. (NAACCR HL7 CI4CC HIMSS mCODE OMOP etc.)
Required Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university is required.
- At least 7-10 years of experience with cancer data staging including staff management experience is required.
- The role requires strong communication skills along with vendor management staff management and financial management skills.
- Understanding of or experience with IT interoperability and health informatics is strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint).
