The Department of Emergency Management is responsible for leading disaster and emergency planning preparedness response and recovery activities on behalf of the Province of Nova Scotia. The objective of the Department is to ensure that Nova Scotians are safe prepared and resilient in the face of disasters and emergencies. The Department leads the coordination and co-operation of partners and resources during provincial level critical incidents supports municipal and other partners in regional level and local events administers the provinces 911 service maintains critical communications infrastructure and supports operations of our regional emergency management centres. The Department also works to ensure critical government services continue to function during and after critical events.

The Regional Operations and Infrastructure Branch enhances the safety and resilience of our Province by:

The Public Safety Field Communications Agency is responsible for managing public safety and public works two-way radio communications infrastructure and dispatch services on behalf of the Province.

Working in an emergency management and public safety operations context the Technical Specialist is responsible for providing highly specialized radio-frequency (RF) and Information Technology (IT) related services supporting the delivery of mission-critical services. The specialist will work closely with PSFCs service manager on a daily basis and be responsible for researching specifying installing inspecting and maintaining various specialized equipment supporting Public Safety Field Communications and DEM as a whole including the mobile communications support program tower site infrastructure and the Regional Operations and Infrastructure facilities of DEM. They will contribute to technical proposals establishment of standards and maintaining documentation and verify the work of various third-party contractors who work in and support the technology environment and DEM facilities. They will help non-technical staff in DEM and in client agencies navigate a world of changing public safety technology through the provision of expert level technical advice.

The ideal candidate will exhibit a commitment to high-quality service delivery focusing on meeting client needs through the effective delivery of technology solutions. Proven expertise in public safety communications technologies is essential as is demonstrated experience delivering on complex projects.

The successful candidate will have completed at minimum Grade 12 education and related trade or technical training (such as Electronics Engineering Technician or Technologist program) and have seven years of related experience following course completion or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
