Collins aerospace is looking to hire Machine Shop Manager who will be reporting to the Senior Manager Machine Shop you will lead the day-to-day operation of the 737-value stream in the Machine Shop while meeting safety quality on-time delivery financial and continuous improvement goals.
Work Location: Oakville Facility Ontario - Canada
Shift Hours : Day Shift 5 x 8 (Monday Friday 7:00 am - 3:00 pm)
What You Will Do
- Provide day-to-day leadership within the 737-value stream of the machine shop by driving accountability and ensuring that safe-working procedures good housekeeping practices and all company policies are adhered to.
- Manage resource allocation and organize the efficient and effective use of manpower equipment and material resources.
- Schedule distribute and control work assignments to provide smooth flow of both priority and routine tasks to ensure efficient utilization of personnel and production requirements are met on a timely basis.
- Provide timely solutions to operational problems and delivery concerns and work closely with all other functions to ensure demand is met by solving operational problems and eliminating bottlenecks.
- Calculate and report on department metrics in the control tower as well as annual budget and spending plans.
- Responsible for ensuring that executable plans are in place to meet deliverables and that actions/milestones are occurring as planned.
- Make sure nothing falls through the cracks as the program crosses functional and site boundaries
- Establishes lines of communication within the team and with other shifts and functions.
- Support department meetings by preparing and presenting information to ensure the flow of information to all employees in the machine shop.
- Work with the team to drive continuous improvement through driver measures open team dialogue and actively participating in Tier board meetings.
- Participate and support CORE related activities and drive CORE initiatives.
- Interface with appropriate support personnel (Manufacturing Engineering Planning and Quality) in the investigation of production problems encountered in meeting schedule requirements and/or quality standards.
- Act proactively to ensure a safe work environment and promote safe work habits through formal audits and continuous contact with the shop floor.
- Ensure the team members are engaged and take an active role in identifying training needs nurturing and coaching employees.
- Ensures that the duties responsibilities authority and accountability of all team members are defined and understood.
- Resolve employee concerns by listening analyzing and acting.
- Conduct performance reviews lead coaching discussions and participate in hiring activities.
- Coordinate overtime and vacation planning to ensure adequate coverage during shift.
- Assist in reviewing those problem areas that have been identified by monitoring QNs and PDS sheets and ensure proper action has been taken to correct the unfavorable occurrence.
- Lead the on-going reduction of inventory and elimination of waste from the business by promoting and applying LEAN principles and daily TPM and 5S in the shop.
- Investigate production and improvement suggestions to determine feasibility suggest new production ideas including acquisition and commissioning of new production.
- Work with maintenance team to drive rapid closure of all daily machine issues and identify opportunities for PM TPM and additional support.

Qualifications We Require
- Bachelors degree in a relevant technical discipline and 8 years of manufacturing experience OR An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
- 3 - 5 years prior people leadership experience in a high paced manufacturing environment preferably in a machine shop environment.
- Experience in Lean manufacturing processes machining and process control.
- Be available to work other shifts as required.
- The successful candidate must meet all requirements under ITAR and CCGP
Qualifications We Prefer
- Background in CNC and/or automated machining
- Previous experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment is required and prior aerospace experience would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated leadership problem solving & data analytics skills.
- Strong computer skills including all Microsoft Office Applications (i.e. Excel).
- Knowledge of applicable processes within all cells.
- Effective time management skills.
- Accepts ownership and accountability for own actions and is persistent in following through on daily plan.
- A team player with strong planning and organizational skills.
- Proven mentoring skills and ability to delegate duties effectively among employees.
- Highly motivated and dedicated individual capable of functioning in a very fast-paced environment and must be a champion of change capable of leading continuous improvement in the processes and performance of their specific program
- Energetic and innovative leader who shares new ideas in an effort to continuously improve the process.
- Ability to communicate well with people at all levels in the organization.
- Strong knowledge of EH&S programs and policies with a passion for health and safety.
