Job Description

Position: Team Chair Person (.6 FTE)

Department/Location: District

Pay: In accordance with CBA scale

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Respond to referrals for special education evaluation within the DESE timelines
  2. Establish concerns and choose appropriate evaluations for parent consent
  3. Lead initial Annual and Reevaluation Teams around eligibility and programming needs and IEP development.
  4. Establish Team recommendations for the Individual Education Program expending funds as needed
  5. Oversee the IEP team members completion of the IEP within the DESE timelines and within the current District IEP system
  6. Track all timelines for the IEP process and adherence to the Nashoba Special Education Manual DESE regulations and law.
  7. Inform the Department of Student Services of all rejected IEP or requests for mediation or hearing
  8. Consults with building administrators on a weekly basis. Keeping building administrators informed about the IEP process as well as ongoing student and staff feedback from IEP and department meetings.
  9. Maintain ongoing knowledge and understanding of the special education and related service supports within the school and district
  10. Participate in walkthroughs regularly to keep informed of instructional supports and understand student needs.
  11. Share testing reports with parents and other Team members before meetings
  12. Provide consultation to parents and other team members as needed
  13. Respond to parents communications in adherence to the district communication policy
  14. Meet regularly with the Director of Student Services and participate in department meetings on time
  15. Aid in the coordination of services at the building level
  16. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so
  17. Continues with personal professional development and assists with professional development needs at the building level
  18. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required
  19. Other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

  1. Must be licensed in the area of Special Education to include a license in Moderate or Severe Disabilities School Psychologists or other related Special Education DESE license.
  2. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology. Be flexible and creative in thinking of solutions to support student needs through the IEP and within the Nashoba MTSS model
  3. Must be able to assist in the protection of special education regulations and laws.
  4. Candidates with at least three years of experience leading team meetings are preferred.

Physical Demands:

Much of the work is performed seated in a typical classroom or office environment requiring minimal to light physical effort. This may include everyday discomforts and distractions typical of a school setting such as proximity to students and colleagues temperature variations frequent interruptions and moderate noise. This position may require the ability to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment.

Physical demands may vary in keeping with the assignment and age of the students but the position generally requires the ability to walk and stand on tile flooring to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds and to bend and twist regularly at the waist knees and neck.


Terms of Employment Evaluation of Performance and Salary:

The School Team Chair is a Nashoba Regional School District Unit A position. Terms of employment including evaluation and salary are covered by the provisions of the Unit A collective bargaining agreement currently in effect.
