Summary

The Transmission Planning & Engineering Engineer I/IIsupports the development and implementation of power systems and infrastructure projects by applying fundamental engineering principles. This entry-level role assists with technical economic and feasibility analyses for proposed projects and contributes to the preparation of business cases and operating plans. The Engineer provides technical support for engineering systems within their assigned area ensuring that project goals are met within defined scope and budget. Projects are typically limited in complexity and scale. This position may involve shift work and requires collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Minimum Requirements

  • A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA). Approved Engineer degrees: Materials Science/Metallurgy Physics Chemistry Nuclear Electrical Mechanical Civil Electronics Computer Science Environmental Chemical Structural. (A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by Engineering department management.)

  • A four-year Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) plus two (2) years working experience in Engineering-related positions. Approved Engineer degrees: Materials Science/Metallurgy Physics Chemistry Nuclear Electrical Mechanical Civil Electronics Computer Science Environmental Chemical Structural. (A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by Engineering department management.)

Preferred Special Skills Knowledge or Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic discipline engineering principles practices and theories and use commonly applied engineering approaches and calculations.
  • Problem analysis/resolution techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes standards practices methods and safety standards in the area of applicable engineering discipline.

Major Accountabilities

1) Assists in the analysis and preparation of a variety of data technical reviews and evaluations trend analyses short to long-range technology assessments products and services investigations product/specification verifications to aid decision present findings to a diverse group of management internal staff customers vendors etc.

2) Assists in preparing engineering plans designs specifications cost estimates scheduling evaluations and engineering documentation including drawings sketches construction notes purchase orders specifications work orders bid evaluations engineering analyses design project control or oversight work is technically sound cost effective and in compliance with established standards codes and regulations.

3) Interfaces with customer and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and that work scope meets customer requirements budget and schedule.

4) Provides technical and field support within areas of specialty to assigned internal staff and with identifying deficiencies potential schedule or quality problems and troubleshoots formulates and initiates corrective action periodic testing and analysis of system data to minimize system/equipment with design regulatory operating and maintenance requirements.

5) Participates in the preparation of business cases and operational plans to successfully implement proposed projects.

6) Contacts customers and various levels of management to obtain or present technical the results of designs studies projects (in terms of new techniques) or approaches to subordinates colleagues management and customers.

7) Remains cognizant of current technology and engineering developments as well as industry and competitive high individual level of engineering technical capabilities and expertise by formal education self-study and awareness of technology advances.

*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

*Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
